Well, I have my first riding lesson at Shallowbrook on Wednesday. In the last week I have come to the EXTREME clarity that HIGH BOOTS SUCK!!!!!! My trainer is very professional/serious, so therefore I am not allowed to school in jeans and chaps. Boo!!! What does it mean that they break down an inch or so? Does it mean that after time, the leather contracts so they appear to be shorter?

I dont' think the leather contracts. If anything it stretches a little and gets softer/more supple. All I know is that you go through a lot of grief until the boots aren't too tall for you anymore. Supposedly the ones I got have a shorter break-in period, which is good cause Im not into leather digging into the back of my knee, or into getting the Achilles (sp?) area of my ankle getting rubbed raw.
