Well, I have my first riding lesson at Shallowbrook on Wednesday. In the last week I have come to the EXTREME clarity that HIGH BOOTS SUCK!!!!!! My trainer is very professional/serious, so therefore I am not allowed to school in jeans and chaps. Boo!!! Boo to lack of comfort, and I'd like to say boo to buying new stuff, but I love buying horse

What does it mean that they break down an inch or so? Does it mean that after time, the leather contracts so they appear to be shorter?

I dont' think the leather contracts. If anything it stretches a little and gets softer/more supple. All I know is that you go through a lot of grief until the boots aren't too tall for you anymore. Supposedly the ones I got have a shorter break-in period, which is good cause Im not into leather digging into the back of my knee, or into getting the Achilles (sp?) area of my ankle getting rubbed raw.
