yay for the temp permit! and yay for curves!

I've been thinking about joining curves, but I think I'm going to wait until I have an income. that might be the prudent thing... :)

I have three guest passes for the one in Pasadena (on Green Street) if you want to try it out for free.

Joining is $75, and it's $39 a month. Once you've done three workouts with one branch (so they're sure you know how to use the equipment safely), you can get a pass to use at any Curves branch in the world. There's one up by my dad's house. There are even some in the UK! They're all over the place. They have a 30 minute workout program, which they recommend you do three times a week. It's a really neat idea, and it appears to have caught on like wildfire!

Let me know if you want to try it, though.

Sure! But I have to do few workouts at the Pasadena branch before I can get a pass to use at other branches.

Let me know, though!

"while they investigate the parking situation."
Wow! "Investigate"? For a mere parking permit? Sounds like they are more disorganized than I am!

I have mixed feelings about "Curves." On the one hand I feel it is good that there is a chain of workout gym that is reasonably priced and whose environment is casual. On the other hand, there is the whole political controversy with the owner of the franchise using the profits to support anti-abortion movements. I am not necessarily pro-abortion but I do believe that a woman has a right to choose about her own body.
I also know from my study of politics and economics that boycott is often not the most effective method of political action (until you can get media coverage to hype it up and make it a large-scale movement). But I don't want to support apathy, either...
Gee, I am having conflicting opinions again! Though by now, you must be used to it. :)

I, too, was going to mention the whole pro-life issue, but didn't want to stir anything up. I was a member of Curves for most of '01-'02 until I moved to an area where they didn't have one (shocking I know). I was going to rejoin after we moved again, until I read the articles on the founder and his affiliations. There are many good "women only" workout centers where I live so I will take my business there. They tend to be less expensive I've also found ( ... )

The personal politics of the founder of the chain do not affect the business, and I have no problem joining the company. I'd heard about the "controversy" before I joined. Check out the snopes link - it explains the stuation quite well, I feel.

I can appreciate your comment, and mine wasn't to criticize or critique, but simply to state my opinion. I realize that the business itself doesn't donate funds, but since the contributor is the founder (and I am assuming here) I imagine he gets a little money off my membership.

With all that being said, I did enjoy Curves quite a bit. I met lots of nice ladies and got a good workout to boot. I hope you enjoy it, too! :)
