Apparently I am smarter than my endocrinologist or, rather, let us say I know how to find the information I am seeking better.

(Very patiently) "I decline. You need to understand that for over a decade I've been unsuccessfully treated for a metaphorical splinter but no-one listens when I tell them I have a broken leg. Now I'm being told that my body may have suffered irrepairable damage. I feel that you are not listening to me, so unless you can clearly explain to me in writing an entire course of treatment for my broken leg AND the splinter, I will decline your treatment. I'm sorry if you have other patients waiting, but being anal is one of my symptoms and since I've been dealing with it for over a decade, you can deal with it for another half hour."

And then casually sit back and lace your fingers.
