They were great daffodils, too - nothing but bulbous green stems when I picked them up (Cancer Society fundraiser) but within a day they had all opened massively and I have never before encountered daffodils with so much *scent*. 'taker was quite enthused with them and would bid them goodnight before he went up to bed in the evening - so cute!
They tell me if you save the bulbs they will come back but that has never worked for me - except for one bedraggled lily of the nile in the corner of our yard. It struggles back every year, puts out a bloom, and then is trampled by cats, raccoons, and I think the gardener.
But forcing bulbs seems an idea why for you to get fresh flowers. I used to have hyacinths in my kitchen, I loved them.
