consumer question

It's about time to replace my coffeemaker. I'm thinking about one of those fancy ones with a thermal carafe and a timer. Don't need a grinder, though. Anyone have any experiences with these gadgets that they'd care to share?

Honestly, I haven't tried enough coffee makers to know which ones are better than others. Maybe someone you know who makes great coffee with their brand would be a good source for info.

I myself use my little 2 cup porcelain pot unless I have friends over and then I use a cheap drip coffee maker that does okay.

However, do learn how to brew coffee correctly. Use fresh coffee beans or ground coffee that are ground properly - not too course nor too fine. Use good water. Keep your coffee maker clean or you will pick up bitter tastes from old grounds. Most coffee makers don't brew hot enough but try to get a maker that has an adjustable hot plate and set it on the highest setting. Only very hot water extracts the coffee flavor peoperly though, and I believe there are heating limits on most home coffee makers that are too low. Be sure to measure peoportions accurately, and once you get the right proportions, follow them exactly. Remember too, a coffeemaker "cup" is about 5-6 oz., not mug size ( ... )

Our Braun has been very reliable. Good brand. If you feel like spending a ton of time deciding, check out coffeegeek.com
