Ironically, Charlotte Bronte, a much darker novelist who wrote years after Austen's death, penned Jane Eyre which was basically ripped off in the Jacques Tourneur/Val Lewton B-Movie Classic, I Walked with a Zombie, which was re-set in the West Indies.
