It's so sweet, it's given me a toothache

My goddaughter's mother just sent me an email, telling me (among other things) that Bets is sick. Betsy loves school so much that she cried when her mom told her that she couldn't go to school with a 103 degree fever.

Me too. Betsy and her sister (they're twins) just loooove school. They're 6. Maybe the fever is making her delirious!

That's cute. It might help if her mom told her she doesn't want the other children to get sick as well. Maybe the twins will be the kind who wear shorts and flip-flops during winter someday. I hope not but do let us know.

I'm thinking back to my niece Stacie's (who just had the baby in September) first day of school. She was on a cloud getting all her new unifoms, school supplies, etc. I went over to fix breakfast and help her off and we walked her to the corner where the bus was supposed to pick her up.

She was skipping and singing and giggling, but when the bus pulled up and the doors whooshed open she frooze. Wouldn't move. The driver smiled and called to her to step up. My sister kind of nudged her in the back forward, but when she reached the entrance her little arms shot out and pushed against the sides of the door.

She started screaming and we had to let the bus go on. We drove her to school ourselves. It took about a week for her to decide she liked it and was okay after that. It was too funny.
