I have a copy of Alice in Wonderland that was my grandma's as well, but the pages are so brittle and the binding is shredded so I don't dare try to read that copy. I think I will start with Revolutionary Road.
always a dissenter . . . i'd knock On the Road off the list. Kerouac is over-rated. but if you're interested in the beats, i'd recommend Diane di Prima. you'd love her writing. another great alternative--one that's less narcissistic and more well-adjusted--is Steinbeck's Travels with Charley.
or you could go a completely different direction and start with Anna Karenina. for a very different depiction of 19th century Russia, something about the neurotic middle-class, you should check out Notes from Underground.

Umm....or the last one on the list (Revolutionary Road) that looks good.
