Two Cups of Coffee // Changmin/Yoona //
one-shot // au // 930w. //
a/n: Plot isn't purely mine. Got it mostly from the manhwa "Two Cups of Coffee"
Really, I should be sleeping right now. But I had last minute inspiration, so... Anyway, crappy fic is crappy.
I'll worry about errors some other time.
Wednesdays and Saturdays were Changmin’s favorite days. It was only on those days when he happened to be early for work.
If you thought that was pretty strange, you aren’t the only one.
Apparently this currently too happy Changmin who was on his way to work had forgotten about Yunho’s intuition and became careless. So when he stepped inside the warm café, he was quickly pulled further inside by that certain intuitive man.
“Hyung, what the-“ A hand slapped on Changmin’s mouth to stop him from continuing.
“Keep your voice down, will you?” The elder whispered and looked around, grateful that the customers paid no attention to them.
“Mmfbnmpmdfbm.” Although Changmin’s words were all muffled and undecipherable, Yunho seemed to understand.
“What? Oh. Okay, here’s the thing. You’ve been creeping me out lately. You’re early. You’re Shim Changmin. Early and Shim Changmin don’t make sense together okay?”
The younger raised an inquiring brow, a little shocked but not insulted. “Mnmdbfmdmn?”
“My point is. Why on Earth are you early? Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad thing. Good, actually. Just. You know. I just wanna know, you know?”
Changmin rolled his eyes and grabbed Yunho’s wrist to pull his hand away. And just as he did that, the door chime rang and she stepped inside. Whatever he was going to snap at Yunho was gone. All thoughts erased, like they were all stolen by her presence.
He knew he was staring and he knew it was bad, but he couldn’t help it. His friend’s snicker made him snap back to the real world, like a flick of a switch. He shot a glare at him but he knew it was nowhere near intimidating when he felt the blood in his cheeks. So Changmin sent a jab (not light, not strong) to Yunho’s stomach to shut him up. He grinned triumphantly when the other winced in pain but went back to being shy as he secretly watched the girl walk over to that same table she always sat at.
“Well hurry up and get your butt over there and get her order.” Yunho tied an apron around Changmin’s waist and gave him a tray before pushing him forward. Changmin blinked at him in confusion but slowly started approaching the girl.
He made a mental note to calm down before he stopped in front of her table. After successfully getting her attention by clearing his throat, he sent her a small smile which she returned.
She was about to speak but stopped when Changmin beat her to it.
“Let me guess, two cups of coffee, right?”
Her smile widened at this. “How’d you know, Changmin sshi?”
For a moment, Changmin was surprised to hear her call him by his name, but remembered that he had a nametag on. He shrugged, his smile also widening.
“Lucky guess. Oh, but if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be back with your order after a while.” He bowed slightly before turning around and walking back to the counter.
He ignored Yunho’s expectant look and walked past him to inform the baristas about the order. Seeing the sullen look on his friend’s face, he sighed and decided to engage in conversation. “I don’t blame you man, she’s really pretty. Don’t you…” And he just kept on talking and talking while he pretended to listen. Honestly, the guy talked so much in less than a minute.
He listened to some parts of his blabbering though, like the part when the other found it odd how the girl always ordered two cups of coffee. Yunho thought it was a waste, but Changmin didn’t. He always thought there was a reason why she always looked out the window. To him, she looked like she was waiting for someone to sit down and drink coffee with her.
No one ever came though. But Changmin, he wanted to. He wanted to sit with her, drink that extra cup of coffee, and talk to her. He thought maybe one of these days he will. Maybe during his break or he could take a day off and go to the café as a customer. One of these days, maybe, but for now, he just wanted to know her name.
The baristas called out the order and he quickly put the two cups of coffee on his tray. He saw her reading a book from afar but when he approached her, she looked up at the smell of coffee. He carefully set the cups down on the table, but he didn’t leave just yet.
“Excuse me…” He began to say.
She closed her book and looked up in question. “Yes?”
“This might sound strange, but may I ask what your name is?”
She looked down but Changmin saw that playful smile that crept on her face. She looked up with pursed lips as she thought for a second.
“Only when you finally sit down and drink this cup of coffee with me.” She grinned. Her expression was a knowing one and she did know. She knew about those secret glances Changmin sent her and especially when she sent some of her own. And little did he know that all those extra cups of coffee were for him, but she figured she could tell him something close to that.
He on the other hand, blinked and stood there for about three seconds before he too had a grin on his face. Then finally, he sat on the other chair opposite from hers. “Shim Changmin.” He nodded, introducing himself.
“Yoona. Im Yoona.”
