Angels have names that end in -el because they are referring to the Lord. Uriel, Michael, Rafael, Gabriel, Castiel. I'd almost say that the accent should be on the -el. That's how I pronounce Castiel
Cas, tee EL. Sam seems to say CAS tiel, rhyming it with how they pronounced uriel and gabriel. Meh. And of course, Michael is such a common name in English that the -el suffix doesn't even register!! (it's more like itself in the russian, Mikhail -- Mikha-el, "who is like God?")
So I can see why Castiel would get so annoyed --- he has always been very serious about his devotion to the Lord (even now that he's very angry) -- and he would want people to get it right.
So, yeah, I always hated Zacharaiah a little (for many reasons) but one, for not even having a proper Angelic name. Anna was probably Anael, the Angel of Romantic Love. Fitting eh?? :)
And of course with the Gardener, Joshua, they were Hinting at Something. :P
Sam is in a Cage till he gets it right! :)
