Samantha turns toward Lindsay, her head lowered as she chews nervously on her bottom lip. “I want to have a baby.”

Lindsay laughs and nods. “Yeah, I got that.”

Samantha doesn’t join her in laughing. “I mean, I want to give birth. To our baby.”

Lindsay grins and places her hand on Samantha’s cheek and strokes it with her long thumb. “I know what you meant. And I can’t wait to have a little Ronson-Lohan running around the house.”

Samantha blushes and puts her hand over top of Lindsay’s on her cheek. “Maybe we should conjugate our last names. Lonson…Rohan? I bet no one’s thought of that one.”

Giggling, Lindsay hops onto the kitchen counter. “I can’t wait to make a baby with you.” She grins mischievously.

“Wait. You know you can’t get me pregnant…right? It’s sort of impossible,” Samantha jokes, sneaking her hands under Lindsay’s t-shirt.

“I don’t see why we can’t pretend though,” Lindsay says, her voice low and raspy. Samantha closes her eyes and groans, kissing the girl.

They continue kissing for a while, entirely unaware of the passage of time, or their surroundings.

“Ahem…” Charlotte says, mock-clearing her throat several times to put a stop to the awkward moment.

Samantha laughs as she helps Lindsay down from the countertop.

“I said we wouldn’t be gone long,” Charlotte says, laughing.

Samantha playfully sticks her tongue out at her sister. “Next time I’ll just lock the door. Then you won’t be able to interrupt.”

Ann comes in a few moments later with arms full of brown paper bags. She begins setting out plates of delectable breakfast buffet items; danishes, muffins, fluffy croissants, mounds of scrambled eggs. Samantha wonders if she’ll crave these sorts of things with a baby on board.

“You really went all out, didn’t you, Ma?” Samantha says to Ann, giving her mother a partial hug.

“Of course. It’s a special occasion and we need to celebrate,” Ann responds, pouring boiling water into a teapot - one Samantha’s only ever used as decoration. She’d much rather drink coffee or a can of redbull for breakfast.

“Mark’s birthday was days ago. And besides, he’s not even here,” Samantha says, raising a curious eyebrow.

Ann grabs for Samantha’s left hand but the younger woman hides it safely behind her back before her mother can get a hold of it.

“D’you think I didn’t notice the ring on your finger?” Ann says, grinning knowingly. She takes hold of Lindsay’s left hand instead. “And on yours?”

Samantha shrugs and blushes guiltily.

“A mother notices everything, Samantha. When were you planning on telling us? This is exciting news!”

She shrugs again and smiles at Lindsay. “Now, I guess.” The four women sit, one on each side of the breakfast table and dig in to the feast.

As women do, they discuss wedding plans. Charlotte talks about designing the dresses - something slightly feminine with a little edge for Samantha’s sake. Ann offers to design their wedding bands and it’s assumed that Mark will DJ the reception. With all of Samantha’s siblings, half-siblings and step-siblings, it’s sure to be a Ronson family affair.

“What d’your parents think about it, dear? Maybe we could have your sister Ali sing a little song at the reception,” Ann says, sipping politely on a cup of black tea.

Lindsay shrugs and looks embarrassed. Suddenly, she realizes she hasn’t even spoken to her parents since getting back together with Samantha. How will she spring the idea of marriage and a baby on them without sparking a blow-up of catastrophic proportions?

“You haven’t told them yet, have you?” Charlotte asks, looking between Lindsay and Samantha who both look extra guilty. “Let’s hold off on making any big plans until we have the Lohan clan on board,” she adds with a giggle.

Lindsay shrugs. “I’m not sure how to go about telling them. I haven’t talked to my dad in over a year. And my mom is busy managing Ali’s career. The next time I’ll see them all is at mom’s engagement party.”

Charlotte gets a sly look in her eye. Samantha looks at her, wary. She knows what her sister is capable of. “What are you thinking, Charlotte?”

“It’s an engagement party, right? Isn’t that what the occasion is for, announcing engagements?”

Lindsay places her head shamefully in her palms and sighs. She knows where this is going and isn’t sure it’s the best idea. These Ronsons are all about crashing parties.

“I’ll invite some of our family. When you go up and make your speech, just add in your own little announcement at the end.”

Lindsay lifts her head again. She winces and looks at Samantha who seems just as enthused at the prospect.

“Yeah, and what about my dad?” Lindsay asks, knowing her father will be the toughest audience.

“Don’t worry. Leave it up to me. You’re in good hands,” Charlotte says, rubbing her palms together, looking sinister.
