Logo

I just read this article:

New Logo ArticleIt always makes me wonder how much of all of this time and money people spend on logo re-designs is a total waste. I mean, it's a billion dollar industry, so I'm sure that they have done lots of research on it, but I really don't think the old Kraft logo was turning people off to their food. I really don ( Read more... )

I dunno, just looking at these more contemporary logos particularly the new Walmart and new Kraft logos, I can understand the make over. They are softer, friendlier, looser. The Kraft one in particular is less industrial looking and if you think about that, yeah, why would you want the face of your food company to look bold and powerful with thick solid lines and dark colors? That looks like the logo of a chemical company. The pastels, the curves, the casual font and the smile of the new logo are much more appropriate. Though I see they have already changed it and yeah it does look a lot like Yoplait. But Yoplait is a brand that people associate with healthy products and when you are peddling atomic orange cheeze powder gluten kibble, it's a good idea to distract people from the fact that they are eating industrial waste ( ... )

Well, maybe that's my problem. I definitely still wear the clothes that I have from the nineties. I wear clothes until they fall apart. I don't think about things in terms of newness or hipness. I generally think about things in a utilitarian fashion.

I just don't think that it registers to most people when they by Kraft that it's a new logo. I don't think I would have ever noticed if I hadn't read that article. But I will give that I'm really not in a majority on basically anything in America, so maybe this just doesn't work for ME rather than it being a big load of bullshit. Still, to me it looks like bullshit. I've never seen anyone discuss logos in a store unless it's one that unbelievably hideous.

I didn't mean to criticize your fashion sense, Shawn! lol.

And I don't know how effective these corporate makeovers are but I do like to think about this stuff. I hope that being aware of the mindfuck helps me to resist it.

Oh, I'm not offended. I don't really think about fashion. I think about style. Fashion to me is what people dictate to you. Style is what you decide for yourself. I'm very comfortable with my style.

Resisting the mindfuck by knowing your enemy is the way to go. I'm kind of obsessed with that, actually.
