Asexual

Reading through the Chronicle's website this morning I came across an article about asexual people.

AsexualsThe article is not really all that interesting to me, but as usual, I find most of the stimulating information in the comments section. Here is a classic spread of response that show how hard people work to not understand each other ( Read more... )

It often depends on how much we care about THIS or THAT respectively. It would be nice if pragmatism were more highly valued in our culture, so that people could worry less about a whole lot of difference that doesn't interfere with anyone's real ability to do anything.

Except get upset about other people's business, I suppose ...

I agree. It's interesting to me to see the things people will do to not be wrong. Christianity is like this to me. In the face of overwhelming evidence that the Bible is at the very least extremely inaccurate, many people back home in Kentucky have dug in even deeper. Instead of questioning their faith, they question the motives of everything that cast doubt on their faith. It's exhausting. These are people that care way, WAY too much about this or that.

"Hey look! That person is different! Let's go tell them how wrong they are."

Rinse, repeat. Yay humans.

On an only partially related note, my friends are reminding me why I hate people. We have a group of people going on this "Hey, this dude is going to get married, let's have a party in the woods" trip. This ought to be simple. It's not. Fucking grade school drama all over the place. It's so pathetic, and I'm going to feel really bad for the soon to be groom when half his friends don't show up because they are big, immature babies.

Fuck people.

It's the same with anything that people 'discover' and then go completely potty about - gay, married, poly, kids, weed, clubbing, bdsm, skag, rpg's, meth, a band, the internet, a sport, you name it, some twonk who has finally filled a huge gaping wound in their persona will try and convert everyone within ear shot.

It reminds me of religious fervor - scream the praise, the power and the glory and try to convert all and get them to join you 'in the light'. Anyone who doesn't get it, or just isn't interested obviously isn't being screamed at loud enough (Ned Flanders and family trying to win Homer back to the flock in Homer the Heretic? - Erin still can't believe that was a real song. I think it's traumatised her).

These people fall into your 'one genre CD collection' theory (that I still think rocks the known universe and several random sub realities)

Yup, that's why I hate most everyone. A small group of people pick lifestyles that make them happy. The rest pick lifestyles that cover up the hurt. There is a big difference between the two. Of course, being gay, straight, bi, or asexual isn't really a lifestyle, but being in your face about it is.

What drives me crazy in these posts are the people that are like:

"What happened to the world? Why does everyone have to shove their GAY agenda in my face now? When I was a kid those people were just fucking faggots and everyone was fine with it. Now they get special rights! What's that all about."

Well, dickhead, they aren't getting "special" rights. They are just catching up to everyone else. And it isn't a gay agenda to have two dudes kiss on television, unless it's a retaliation against the straight agenda which has been a media tour de force in this country for about 200 years now.
