Finally buckled down and got around to editing almost all the photos from AX this year.  Still haven't uploaded the pictures of the WoW gathering, which is on my point and shoot, but got all the ones off my SLR.  I'm rather happy how they turned out, but learned quite a bit from this last batch of

The underexpose is most likely from the bright sun. When shooting in that kind of situation, dial in +1 or so exposure compensation, your new 30D has it :-)

As I told many other people, save up another $100-$200 and buy yourself either a 50/1.4 or 35/1.4 lens. F2 is you can only afford that. Try to use only that one lens exclusively and wide open. Do it until you know how it behaves. You will learn more about photography doing that in 3 days of shooting than anything else.

As it is, 90% of my photos are ~50/1.4.

I have the 50mm f/1.8 (haven't pulled it out in awhile since I got my 28-70mm f/2.8). Really think that the 1.4 is big difference over the 1.8? I've been thinking of picking up a 85mm f/1.8 lens (for portraits), but you think I ought to go with the 50 f/1.4 instead? How does it do as a portrait lens?
