This may be old but it can't go without saying.

Tons of people below the poverty line are not "junkies" or individuals with substance abuse problems, many of them have always lived in poverty or they're immigrants who have not been able to find work. A lot of people who would like to recieve government ID work during the day, and not being able to eat or pay your rent by missing work to seek out said ID is not the greatest idea, so they simply work at typically low paying high risk jobs. America was not founded on the hard work of good Americans, it was done on the backs of Native Americans who were crushed by disease and exploitation by Europeans as well as slave labour brought over Africa. All of North America has been founded on labour of other races and through very little effort of their own, hence why it is a lazy god forsaken country now.

Very well put. Even if someone ends up becoming a "junkie" or develops a substance abuse problem, it's generally a byproduct of a lot of preventable and unnecessary economic factors, horrible health care system, mental illness, etc.
