The first artists' group to which I belonged was a company called Sypher. It wouldn't surprise me terribly if you've heard of them; these days they're based in Hollywood and are pretty well-known for putting on an elaborate masked ball once a year. That's a really good way to put it, actually (and I think I know exactly who you mean). There were/are a lot of really creative, talented and driven artists from those groups that were stymied at one point or another by not having any projects to work on (when your group has one writer by design and said writer suffers a six-month creative block, you end up recycling a lot of old material), and there just wasn't a lot of opportunity for exhibiting new ideas or styles. We tried our best to do the opposite with Conspiracy Productions, but to be honest we weren't always successful at that either.

And I guess I should stop being surprised when it turns out you've met so many of the people I knew in San Diego, especially in the arts scene! Remind me to hit you up if I'm ever back there looking for a job. ;-)
