ATTN: MEAT EATERS

Mar 17, 2005 08:49

Please give me your valid reasons for eating meat. I don't want bullshit reasons like "IT TASTES GOOD!" or "I LIKE TO KILL ANIMALS!". I also don't want reasons like "eating meat is healthier than a vegetarian diet" or "humans were meant to eat meat" because neither of those things are true. I'm doing a speech in which I have to address both sides ( Read more... )

You know what side I'm on but...

As far as I'm concerned there are only a few logical reasons for eating meat. I'll start off with one that you clearly don't like but I see it as one of the most reasonable.

1. I like meat. (see also reason 4)
2. I'm lazy.
3. I don't know any better.
4. I'm heartless.

My teeth are sharp and pointy, made to tear apart strips of meat. But actually, Daniel found an article that said vegetarians have a shorter lifespan than "omnivores" and I've read that somewhere too...but can't trust everything you read, sooo...also, I really don't eat that much meat, I just think it's silly when people have to group themselves into categories for whatever reasons they have and give themselves a title or a name or some nonsense. And one more...plants are the only living thing on the earth that don't feed off of other living organisms, and I think it's weird to single them out. BUT red meat is really really horrible and bad for humans in many ways, and I rarely like to eat it.

Personal preference...everybody's got their own taste. I like chipmunks (joking)! I have a feeling I might be put down for having this opinion, but oh well.

yeah, but you can't trust "studies" done by anyone. because the meat industry's studies say that not eating meat is bad for you and vice versa. for example, the meat industry says that soy protein causes cancer, however, paradoxically, the soy industry says meat causes cancer. hmmm... but, another point, leigh anne, the meat industry is the leading cause of pollution in the country, due to overgrazing and the such. and another point, 70% (this is a statistic though, so take it with a grain of salt) of the grain produced goes to feed livestock, which would not feed as many people as said grain would have.

With regard to your first sentence person I don't know, that would be why I said "can't trust everything you read, sooo..."

actually. . .our teeth are flat and rather dull, especially in comparison to, say, a dog.

and i think there are few people who are vegetarian just to fit into the category. if there are, those people don't count.

you're welcome to your own opinion, but even still, i haven't had a response that gives any sort of valid reason for me to argue for.
