Pre-baby, my nighttime fun thing was reading a book. I find that if I do all my nighttime ready-for-bed stuff before reading, it was easier to just put the book down and curl up to sleep when I got sleepy. If I didn't, I could convince myself to read just a little more, and a little more, and a little more, and suddenly it would be morning.
I've tried making a habit out of reading before bed instead of playing games, because you're right, it's so easy to just put the book down and curl up to sleep. I get upset when I start missing out on game culture, though, so I just let myself fall into the habit of playing games and keeping an eye on the time instead. Plus I "kind of " get to spend time with Ken since we play different games in the same room every night, lol.
As for small people, I really hope our kids like video games!
I miss having time/energy to play games. I'm betting little one will like them... once he's old enough to stop trying to eat the controllers. Before we moved, we let him fiddle with the Wiimote a bit with a simple game on, and he liked the WiiFit stuff. Haven't hooked anything up here, though. Not enough space, with the barriers we have to use to keep him from trying to eat the tv. (In case no one's mentioned, toddlers like to chew on All the Things.)
