Summary: Dongwoo finds out Woohyun smokes, but he doesn't mind much. (highschool!au)
A/N: um... something

Nam Woohyun is the school's class president. He is amiable, a straight A student, and incredibly popular among his peers (especially the girls).

Jang Dongwoo is...well, Jang Dongwoo. He is a B-sometimes C-average student, does dance on the side, and has his own dance crew (which isn't all that popular yet).

So when Jang Dongwoo sees Nam Woohyun on the rooftop, a cigarette in between his lips, Dongwoo is no doubt surprised.

"I didn't know the student body president smoked," Dongwoo says, leaning against the railing beside Woohyun.

If Woohyun is surprised, he doesn't show it. He looks at Dongwoo, and smiles almost shamefully. Dongwoo finds the image...odd. This whole situation is odd. Nam Woohyun, the class president, is on the rooftop smoking like some school delinquent instead. Dongwoo wants to laugh at the ridiculousness of it.

Woohyun blows out a puff of smoke into the air, its grey wisps floating before dissipating entirely. "I only do it occasionally. Nobody knows about this, not even Myungsoo."

Dongwoo's eyes widen slightly in surprise. If even Kim Myungsoo, Woohyun's best friend and right hand man, doesn't know about this, then that's saying something. "Why do you do this?"

Woohyun shrugs nonchalantly, an action different from what he'd do in the classroom. Actually, this Woohyun is very different from what Dongwoo has grown to know. The Woohyun he knows, the one everyone knows, is bubbly and energetic and...like a warm sun. The Woohyun beside Dongwoo looks...old, to put it simply, and just worn out.

Woohyun takes a long puff and exhales slowly before he speaks again. "I don't know... It's just stressful, you know? My presidential duties, keeping my grades up, even my parents at home just becomes too much sometimes. Smoking makes me forget everything even if it's for a little bit."

"This is bad for you," Dongwoo says, eyeing the cigarette in Woohyun's hand.

"Yeah, I know," Woohyun replies, looking down at the ground below them. "I had a feeling you'd say that, Dongwoo. Maybe I should just give up... If I jumped off this building, do you think I'd die?"

Dongwoo gives Woohyun a panicked look. "Woohyun, don't jump."

Laughing once, Woohyun pats Dongwoo's shoulder with his free hand. "Don't worry, I won't."

"...why don't you quit?"

Woohyun shrugs again. "You know when they said that it's hard to quit, they weren't kidding. I'm already neck deep in this crap, Dongwoo. I don't think I'd be able to get out even if I wanted to."

"Well...," Dongwoo pauses, trying to find the right words. Instead, he settles with, "You should try."

Woohyun smiles. It's forced, Dongwoo can tell, and it looks an awful lot like the smile he's used to seeing. It makes Dongwoo wonder whether or not his image of Woohyun is completely false. "You're smart, Dongwoo. Don't become like me, relying on cigarettes to forget your problems."

"At least it's not drugs," Dongwoo says with a smile.

Woohyun smiles, and it looks more natural this time around. He takes one more puff, and then steps on the cigarette, extinguishing it.  "That's true."

Woohyun takes a pack of breath mints out of his pocket, and pops one into his mouth. He turns around to leave, but before he could, Dongwoo stops him.

"You know," Dongwoo says, "I don't really know your whole situation, but if you have some problems or whatever, you can come talk to me. You don't always have to rely on cigarettes to forget your problems."

"Thanks, Dongwoo." Woohyun smiles, and Dongwoo knows the mask is back on.
