so I am instituting a rule that states when I finish one game of anything on line, I must pause for thirty seconds and determine if I REALLY want to play another game or if there isn't something I'd rather do ( there usually is)

Hey, that might help me too! Except in my case, instead of online games it's usually browsing random pages on the Homestar Runner Wiki, the Super Mario Wiki, or my old LJ posts. Who knows, I might even get Ours Will You 1-Up back up this year!

Ours Will You 1-Up? Back up? This year?! *bursts into hysterical laughter*

Yeah, I also have the problem of making random associations which cause me to want to google things and read about them. Could be optimistically called research, however, a lot of times there are other more important things I could be doing (like going to bed!)
I may try pausing before clicking anything new to try to take control of my impulses.
Matt, I think everyone could benefit from reading my textbook. Everyone has behaviors they want to change.

What exactly do you mean by "random associations"?

I'll be reading something and a certain word or sentence will remind me of or get me thinking about something else and then I google the something else and oftentimes that sets off a flurry of reading or watching videos concerning the new topic, and then I get swept off in another direction by some other random word or situation. It can go on forever!!
