LJ Idol: Blood Harmony

My Bubby both pre and post Holocaust loved to be a part of choirs. She had a gorgeous singing voice and loved to sing. She would sing along to anything with a smile on her face, lost in the melody as if it took her to a far away place. When I picture her in my memories, I think of her with her eyes closed, rocking back and forth, singing holiday ( Read more... )

I absolutely adore this, and I'm so happy for you. As a person with musical talent, who has graced many professional stages and won many awards and recognitions for singing ability, I am firmly of the belief that singing belongs to ANYONE and EVERYONE who wants to sing, not just to the very talented. I sometimes truly relish music sung by someone who maybe can't hit all the notes, but very clearly has a strong passion for the song. You keep it up, and never let anyone stop you. Your music is more beautiful than you know! <3<3<3

This was such a wonderful look at your family. Some people just can't sing (guilty) but you clearly have the guts to go ahead anyway.

I feel if you enjoy singing, you should sing regardless - life is too short not to sing (badly) lol.

>>It never stopped us from bursting into song singing loudly and proudly not worrying who heard us.<<

that's the way to do it. :D i also can't carry a tune in a bucket, and i also joined the school chorus, altho just one year in high school. fortunately the chorus teacher never pulled me aside to tell me i couldn't sing and shouldn't have been there, and the teacher who did that to you was astonishingly rude. what an awful way to treat a second-grader. props to your mom and your bubby for sticking up for you.

That's awesome that you joined a chorus :) I actually had my 5th grade music teacher tell me as well to mouth words at our 5th grade graduation but I refused to do so and sang loudly. I ended up in 7th grade getting placed into choir as a class because it was the first year they were offering it and they placed student into the class and she was actually a lovely teacher who never once said anything to me about my singing.
