Cute! I remember something like this happening to me, too... in third grade, some friends decided it was time I stopped just being wistful about a guy in our social circle I had a crush on, so they pretty much dragged him into the library for me to "confront" him. I'm not sure what any of us thought was going to happen, or why I agreed to go along with this dingbat plan... he wasn't into me, and he was trying to be nice about it, so he wouldn't say it directly, so I made him say it. Because, you know, I was all mature, and everything. *eyeroll* Your situation at least had the positive reassurance of someone who returned your affections, even if he wasn't willing to pursue a relationship. Not that there was anything in the way of "relationships" available to us in third grade... mostly just saying you were "going with" someone, not that you went anywhere, and that mainly consisted of sitting together in lunch, walking together in the halls, holding books, holding hands... usually for a period of 2-3 weeks before you broke up and

I love stories like these of things we do for love when we're kids because we're all so sure it will work until it doesn't LOL. Hopefully the silly memories it brought back for you are good ones!
how to use the child locks on this car so it can't fail even if he tries to escape! This is the point where you can be SURE whatever Dan has in mind is a bad idea. :D
I'm glad this turned out well for Cassie, and that Ben wasn't so completely wigged out by the original plan that he decided she was too scary to date. He did seem to be an extraordinarily nice, calm guy. :)
Real life "Ben" was actually a very nice, calm guy almost very hippie-ish so to speak (long hair, tye dye shirts, baggy jeans) and was also very aware of real life "Dan's" craziness LOL. He was more amused by our plan than wigged out though he was not a fan of the child locks!
Aww. I liked reading both the fictional version and the version it was inspired by. Sometimes I like to fantasise about how things could've been different too.
When I've been in this sort of situation, my biggest fear has always been, "What if they don't feel the same way about me and they stop being friends with me?"
