Note: Aba is the Hebrew word for Dad. Weirdly, despite speaking Hebrew fluently, I did not often call my mom Ima, mostly calling her Mommy or Mom. Aba however, has always been the only word I've ever used to call my dad and because I only ever refer to him as Aba, I use the word here as well.As we took the hour long bus ride back to Yafo after a ( Read more... )

There always seems to be some scary thing going on in Israel just before you're due to go there.

There are but statistically speaking in Israel, you're more likely to die of a car accident than of a terrorist attack which I learned on this trip!

I loved the part where your aba asks about Eli, and then they point him in the right direction XD It definitely reminds me of some of the places I lived.

You'd wonder why there would be anti-Semitic sentiments in Poland post-WWII for crying out loud! How crazy is that??

That must have been great being able to go with your dad to Israel. I often regret not being able to go to France or England with my mom before she died. She often spoke about it in post-WWII terms because she lived there for a short time in the early 50s as an army brat. I did go with my sister, and we reported back to her. She's half Croatian, so she was asking us to look up her family name in the telephone book, and we couldn't find anyone. I guess Dubrovnik wasn't quite as old school as Tel Aviv :p Interestingly enough, a long lost relative got in touch with my aunt who had connections to our Croatian side of the family! I hope to attend their annual family reunion at some point.

Anyhow, thanks for sharing this.

I'm not surprised there was anti-Semitic sentiments - Poland got screwed and needed a scapegoat, the Jewish people were an easy scapegoat plus throw in that it's a very Catholic country....

I hope you're able to go to their family reunion one day!

That makes sense about Poland. It's just so strange to think about in retrospect!

Thanks :) Me too...hopefully there will be a Zoom one this year.
