What a wonderful story, with a great ending. I loved the way you framed this as the grandmother's story. You did a great job with the dialog as well.

Very sweet. So often things seem like coincidence, but they lead to a bigger path.

This story actually reminds me a lot of my own parents' romance, who knew each other from birth, and became engaged just before he went off to Viet Nam because they'd both been in love with each other their whole lives, and even though neither had ever admitted it to the other, he was convinced if he waited until he come home, she'd be married to someone else. So they wrote to each for 15 months, and then married as soon as he got back. I like seeing the sliding doors effect of these two different choices, but this is the one that hits a little closer to home.

I do too! They're coming up on 55 years this November. Minion and I got married the same year as their 50th, so, though at our age, it's not a foregone conclusion that we will make it to 50 years, if we do, then we will be celebrating our 50th 100 years from when my folks tied the knot. If you happen to enjoy real-life fairy tales, and have the inclination for a good one, I did write their story for Idol a few seasons back.
