This was a gripping read, and somehow you managed to make me both glad I left teaching and mad at myself for giving up at the same time. Thank goodness there are good people out there (like you) who have the drive and attitude and talent and everything else that is required to fulfill the ever-increasing role of teachers.

I wonder why those rumors ever got started, and were so pervasive throughout your tenure there... do you think that "friend" of yours was maybe not so much a friend after all? It just seems to odd. I am glad you got what you needed out of it, but were able to put it behind you, though.

My friend was only there for a year and a half at most in the time that I was there and the rumors were prevalent throughout my whole time so I don't think so ... also wouldn't match her personality. I think it was a combo of having a sleazy assistant director and initially me trusting the wrong person (the guidance counselor) who I thought was on my side but was just an awful person and I didn't realize in the beginning how much pull she had with admin.

Thank you :) It was awful and I realized in writing this I barely even scraped the surface of how toxic this place was.

Omg what a horrible place to be. This whole story is so rage-inducing. I want to go fight all those people on your behalf, even though it was long ago. But I'm glad you got the last laugh, so to speak, with your director, and that your job is much, much better now <3
