When someone spends their life in front of a camera they get complacent. And this just doesn't happen for people in the media, it happens to all of us. When a newscaster gets a story he reports it and that's it. There's no time to think about what is happening they just have to read the teleprompter. So, when someone dozes of or eats popcorn, as referenced in the article, they are just doing their job, in a way. If they aren't on camera then they aren't being filmed broadcast to millions, just to a feed. It shouldn't matter what they do before or after a broadcast as long as they report the news. Newscasters are just like everyone else, moles and all.
Well, there's no point really in trying to "campaign" or whatever when you're not yet on screen. So few people are tuning in, and those who are are probably just doing it for grins, that it's not worth having any prepared material, and you're not being questioned by anyone. Let's face it, if I were to put a camera on random people and say "You'll be on in 5 minutes, but until then, just chill, but remember, it's possible a few people may be watching you" what will most people do
