Title: Our Romanesque
Pairing: Yasuba
“What are you doing..?” Hina questioned, peeking over my shoulder.
We both stared down at the photo in my hands.
“Oh, that’s Maru and his ex-boyfriend. Now put it away ‘cus I don’t think Maru would appreciate you snooping through his stuff.” Hina ordered.
“Subaru…”
“You know him?”
“Yeah. Hina, he’s the guy I was telling you about.” I whimpered.
Hina stood up and took a step back, his eyebrows furrowing in disappointment.
“Shota, I don’t want Maru knowing anything about this. Even though he’s never said it himself, I don’t think Maru’s ever been able to get over that guy.”
“But he’s in love with you!”
“Look, Subaru just walked out on him a year ago without saying anything. All he left for Maru was a note, saying that he didn’t want anything to do with him anymore. Even though Maru says that he’ll never be able to forgive that guy, I’m sure he’d choose Subaru over me any day.”
I sighed. “Do you know where I can find him?”
“Shota I really don’t think you should-”
“Please, Shingo! I need to see him, at least once more. I cant stop thinking about him.” I pouted.
Hina grumbled as he scribbled down an address on a ruffled piece of paper, and shoved it in my hands.
“Now go.” Hina ordered. “In the meantime, I’ll find a way of getting your stuff from Tadayoshi’s place.”
“Thanks!” I hugged him before making my way out of the door, “I owe you big time!”
“And don’t you forget it!” Hina called back.
I ran down the stairs and made my way for the front door.
“You’re leaving already?” Maru frowned, wearing his orange cooking apron.
“Yeah… I just need some fresh air. To think about things, y’know?”
“You’ll be back in time for dinner tonight though, won’t you?” Maru asked.
“Definitely!” I flashed him a quick grin before heading out the door.
I was abit surprised at the address Hina had given me; according to the piece of paper in my hands, Subaru lived not too far from our bakery, and in a high class estate.
My pace graduated from a walk into a run as I got more and more eager to see Subaru again.
I was suddenly nervous once I’d reached the house I was looking for. I could hear ‘It’s My Soul’ blaring from the house on full blast. Would it be weird turning up on his doorstep on Christmas day? I shrugged, and knocked the front door.
Subaru flung it open almost instantly. “Sho!!~” he squealed, grabbing my hand and pulling me inside.
I laughed as he wrapped his arms around me.
“I’ve missed you, Sho!”
“What happened to ‘Sho-nyan?”
“I took off the nyan ‘cus you just didn’t seem to like it…”
“But when you call me Sho, I think of Sakurai Sho!” I laughed.
“Oh, don’t tell me you’re an Arashi fan aswell!”
Subaru ushered me to sit down, whilst ‘My Last Train’ began to play in the background. He turned to face me as we sank into the couch, his expression slightly serious.
“I think you’ve got some explaining to do.”
I knew exactly what he was talking about, and began to tell him everything that had happened in the past week.
-
Once I’d finished my story, Subaru took a deep breath. “He’s after me again.”
I grabbed his shaking hands, “Who?”
“That Yokoyama bastard. He destroyed my first and only love and-”
His story was cut off with a knock at the door.
Subaru sauntered off to answer, only to come back with a red envelope. “It must be a Christmas card!” he grinned, before sitting back down next to me.
My phone vibrated as I got a text message;
Sho-chan, Merry Christmas!
I hope everything’s okay - come over some time!
Love, Hiroki.
P.S. Have you seen Ryo?
“Who’s texting you?” Subaru questioned nosily as he leaned over my shoulder.
“What are you, my boyfriend?!” I laughed.
“If you want me to be…” Subaru said quietly.
I smiled at him, and kissed him on the cheek; and he rested his head on my shoulder. He grabbed my mobile out of my hands, and I watched him as he read the text.
“Who’s this missing guy, Ryo?” he asked, handing me my phone back.
“Just some crazy guy who can’t decide whether or not he wants to be in a relationship with Hiroki. You see, he’s… in denial.” I replied.
“I see… and who’s this Hiroki?” Subaru grinned.
“My best friend from childhood; he’s also been madly in love with Ryo since forever~”
Subaru giggled - he seemed to be really interested in my friends. He opened the envelope in his hands, and shocked me as he sat up straight and gasped. I watched him as he got up and ran around the house; shutting the windows, closing the curtains, and checking the front door was locked.
“What’s wrong?” I asked, confused.
He pointed at the envelope and managed to choke out a “Look!” from his exasperated breaths.
I emptied the contents of the envelope into my lap; and began looking through the pile of photos of me walking to Subaru’s house literally an hour ago.
“Yokoyama…” I spat out angrily. “What’s the deal with all these pictures and red envelopes?! This isn’t Maou* for fucks sake!” I gritted my teeth as tears began to roll down my cheeks.
Subaru ran up to me, “Don’t cry, Shota. This is just his stupid way of telling me that he’s watching us. Oh, Maou’s his favourite drama by the way… so that’s probably why. But there’s nothing to be afraid of - as long as I’m alive, that bastard wont lay a finger on you.” he assured me, holding me as I sobbed, and catching my streaming tears with kisses.
“Why would he do this Subaru?” I cried, “He’s always been so lovely, so why?!”
Subaru raised his eyebrow, “Yokoyama? Lovely? He’s a Yakuza, what more do you expect?!”
“Ya-yakuza?” I whispered, my bottom lip quivering.
“Yeah, his damned boss - Ohkura Yutaka - has been after me since he found out I was in a relationship with a friend of his son’s. How ridiculous is that?!”
“Did you just say Ohkura?”
“Yes…”
“Subaru, what was his son’s name?”
“His son? I think it was Tadamoshi, or something like that.”
“Tadayoshi…” I corrected him, and everything went black as I shut my eyes. I just wanted to escape from this nightmare.
/Note: happy new year everyone!
