okay, had an interview today at 11AM. 132 WEst 56th street, i'm ready to go.

156 W 56 St, 150, 138... whoa, wait a minute, 128? What happened to 132?

I cross the street and try to look at the building numbers from a different perspective to make sure I wasn't missing anything. Nothing. I try a few of the local establishments. Nobody's ever heard of 132 W 56th. As I walk out the second building I get a call on my cellphone. Its the recruiter.

"Sorry man! Its W 65th street, not 56th."

Well at least I don't have to feel like an idiot for not being able to find it. But now I have to walk another dozen blocks. But at least the guy called ahead and told the people waiting for me that I'd be late.

So I finally make it to Lincoln Center. Finally find the right building, the right entrance. Finally get into the interview. It goes well. As I mentioned before, it'd be part time, though a mix of the stuff I did at Kroll for my first job, and what I did at Nazareth most recently.

At the interview I was told of how much I'd learn there, the potential of having 3 days a week turn into 4, potentially into a direct hire, etc. Sounds great, right?

Well if its at W65th and Metro North brings me to E45th/46th, that means the subway. Something I'd like to avoid if at all possible. And would also make for a longer commute.

So I'm walking back towards Times Square and the East Side when my phone beeps at me, I got a call while I was in the interview (and my phone was off). It was my contact at the other NYC company. This one I wanted to hear from more, since it was fulltime, plus 40 a year. I call her back, get her voicemail. Hey, I say, I'm in the City right now, call me back if you want to meet face to face instead of over the phone.

I go to Midtown Comics, pick up (Adjectiveless) X-Men 183. [ A bitchy standup comedy type post might come later on that ] I grab some slices at Sbarro's across the street. [Geez, i forgot how expensive that place was]. I read, and I eat, and I don't hear back. So I hop on the train. I get a call from StaffIT, who has been my intermediary for the Lincoln Center job. They say they've heard back from the Lincoln Center people, and I made a very good impression on them. Yay for me! They want me to start Monday... whoa, hold on there. I can't make a decision right now, I tell the guy, I have other leads I want to follow up on. If you don't take this we'll have to restart the recruitment process, they tell me. Let me call this one person back, I'll let you know by the end of the day today how it goes.

So I call the gaming company in NYC back. I actually get my contact this time. She says that there was a miscommunication about the job, she'll have to get back to me. So there I am, on the train back to westchester, drained, and going 'FUUUUUUUCK'

So I get home. I am in the process of changing into slightly more lazy clothes when I get an email from my contact for the gaming company. "Sorry, the position has been filled, but I'll keep your resume in case we come across anything close."

Leaving the Lincoln Center job as my last lead. FUUUUUUUCK again.

Consult with Paternal Parental Unit. He suggests asking a few questions about salary and benefits and such to buy myself some time. I got off the phone with them a little while ago.

Salary: 13/hr, like they'd said.
Payroll: I'd be on StaffIT's payroll, deployed to Lincoln Center on an indefinite basis.
Benefits: Since I'd be technically working as a consultant, I wouldn't get any benefits unless the Lincoln Center actually took me on full-time.

That's right. No benefits. Which means I ain't takin' the job, especially since all parties involved wanted me to commit for like 8-12 months at least. 8-12 months with no health insurance from my job? like fuck.

Which means both my most promising job leads are now dead, and I'm back at square one.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!FUCKFUCKFUCK! and once more, Fuck!

But I am DONE for the day. Enough. Walking through 50 NYC blocks, all this shit with the jobs... gah. I am done. Dinner, beers, probably star trek, then I am out.

This rant has been brought to you by Metro North.
