Engaged!

Hey everyone,
This morning Pamela and I got engaged! It was simple and nice. I woke her up with flowers and took her to the park and did it on a nice little bridge. I was really nervous. We're really excited. We've been talking about it for a while and finally we did it. Ok, I have to go. I'll try to call people.

I'm so excited for you! You told me awhile back you were thinking about it, I'm glad you went through with it.

It's pretty early. It was only yesterday and our friends through us a big party last night, so it's a whole lot to think about right now. It is weird though, making such a huge decision and feeling so certain about it. I had tried to question it earlier before I did it because I thought I just couldn't have been so certain about such a big thing. But we really are certain. It's a relief now to have done it and be in a new stage. It's kind of an exhausting time for it though, because it's not just a relief but overwhelming at the same time and we're getting a lot of attention for it.

It is a lot to take in.
We were secretive about it for a few days, only our families knew. But when we told people and announced to our church it was a little overwhelming. And every time you turn around you have to tell the story again (don't get me wrong.. it's fun, but it's a little tiring). Since we have been engaged for such a long time the overwhelmed feeling has dissipated, but it's turned into anticipation and excitement.
I think the legitimacy we felt once we were engaged was what was so peaceful. Your decision isn't a private conversation anymore, it's a real life changing event.
How does your families feel about this?
Matthew's family was always excited for us, but it's really taken my family awhile to come around to the idea.

Well, Michelle and Ryan got engaged on Easter and my mom is going through menopause... so before we got engaged but the first time she heard about it she was pretty emotional about her babies growing up and leaving her. Michelle was also a little jealous and worried that I'm going to steal her thunder. My mom has really come around and started to get excited. It's a lot for her but she's great. Michelle's a little lame still but she'll get over it in a few months or something. Her family couldn't be more supportive. They're just great.
