<> Recreation Room - Lv1
This, my friends, is a place for people to come and relax. Broad wide screen television in one area of the room with various other sofas and chairs around. Vivid walls of pale green and embossed gold wallpaper add a friendly air to this place. Tables, whether coffee or card, line the room, as well as an air-hockey table and fooze ball table for games. Closets support various items for fun, large bay windows give light to the room.

Logan sits sprawled on one of the couches, a bottle of soda in one hand and the remote for the tv in the other. The channels flicker as the large teacher searches for something that piques his interest with apparently little success.

Early morning tending to the horses, well, at least one horse is something Aquilla finds herself still trying to get back into being used to doing. She makes her way back inside, removing some gloves from her hands. She's dressed to accomodate for the warm weather in a fairly simple light blueish tanktop and somewhat snug jeans and boots. She gives the Rec Room a little of her attention for the moment, and it doesn't take long for her to note another making use of it, a light smile given. "G'morning," is offered to Logan.

Logan is generally glad to have some time in the rec room to himself, but the tv appears to be letting Logan down and boring him. He looks around at Aquilla. "Oh, hey. Amara, right?" Fair memory for just one brief meeting. "You're up early, huh?"

Fortunately, Amara is well enough to recognize Logan in turn from that momentary encounter. Maybe it's the hair. She nods while making a trip to one of the room's chairs, the gloves being neatly settled at her lap when she sits. "Yes. Can't afford to sleep the day away." From the sound of her voice she's in good spirits still, as well as being perhaps a little less shy now that she's starting to get settled in. The constant flicker of the TV also gets her attention, eyes averting towards it. "Is the telly being boring today?"

"Yeah, seriously," Logan replies to Amara, sounding notably sour about the morning programming options. "Care for a game of air hockey or something? I already had a workout, and now I need something to do that doesn't make my brain want to dribble out of my ears."

Aquilla finds herself leaving the couch sooner than expected, but she doesn't seem to mind. "Sure.." She could use something entertaining to wind down with herself.
Logan drops his feet off the table where they have been extended and rises to his feet, setting the soda down near the air hockey table and taking a paddle. "Game to ...say eleven?" he suggests. He picks up the puck and flips it onto the far side of the table, then turns on the air jets. "I'll let you start with puck control."

Aquilla again nods. A little odd to be going from combing and feeding horses to playing air hockey, but oh well. A paddle is taken, centering close behind the puck as she sets it. "Go easy on me?" More of a question than a request, though it's followed by a good whack that bounces it off the table's side before it ricochet's toward Logan's end. Familiar with the game, but not often played by her.

Logan chuckles at Aquilla's request. "Yeah. I apparently have mutation-enhanced reactions, so I have to play nice." He jerks his paddle to the side in time to block Aquilla's shot and sending it bouncing back. However, the gesture is considerably more defensive than aggressive, so the returning puck is coming back a slower, more managable speed.
Somewhere on the muck, Melissa has connected.

A faint sound through closed lips is Amara's responce for the moment, focusing more on the puck for the moment. It's met by her again with another shot that sends it bouncing again. Try and get more creative, dear. "I guess everyone here's got some special talents, don't they?"

"Yup," Logan replies cheerfully, jerking his paddle a bit more purposefully this time, sending a shot off one wall toward the goal. "Some of us have a whole set of strange abilities. Some that work for us better than others. Fast reactions and increased strength are pretty unambiguous gifts. What d'you do, other than spend time with the horses?" Has she mentioned them? No, it doesn't seem so. The question still stands.

Aquilla's eyes widen slightly. She's quick to bring her paddle up, and while she nicks it as it passes, it's not enough to keep it from diving into her goal, a mild pouted look on her face. She can't keep it though, smiling as she goes to retrieve the puck. The question is met with a brief moment of silence. Had he asked her a couple of weeks ago she might've been even more pensive about answering, but she doesn't keep the silence for long in this case. The puck gets dropped onto the table. "I'm not sure if it's all that I can do, but.. I can make fire." In fact, a little ring of the stuff suddenly flares up around the upper part of the puck before she sends it Logan's way again. Certainly not a blaze, but maybe an attention-grabber.

"Shit!" Logan is startled by the fire, despite the warning about Aquilla's ability. His swipe with his paddle is more than a little random and sends the puck skipping end over end off the table, flipping through the air. Logan drops the paddle and, with greater than human speed, jets after it, clamping a booted foot down on top of the puck as it lands on the rug, clamping any fire that might remain out. "Well. That's quite a talent." He flashes Aquilla a dryly amused smile, apparently at his own over-reaction. "Sorry 'bout that."

Aquilla starts to explain that she can actually control said fire to the point of putting it out... But the sudden reaction it gets is just way too much. A hand falls over her mouth to try and hide the shock and the urge to just laugh from coming through. Fortunately by the time Logan's foot is coming down on the puck, the flame's gone. The apology surprises her a little, and she shakes her head. "No, it's alright. I should probably be saying that."

Logan picks up the puck and examines it. No lasting damage seems to have resulted and he tosses it back onto the air hockey table, down at Aquilla's end as he reclaims his paddle. "Yeah, well. I like to think I'm not prone to panic, but I /am/ prone to react quickly. And curse. I take it you can put the fire out again, too? Which makes that scene a hell of a lot funnier than I thought it was for a moment there." He does seem amused, in a largely self-deprecating way.

Aquilla nods a little, seeming a bit apologetic in her expression however. Okay, no more cheap fire tricks. "As long as I'm calm, anyway. I haven't always had, well.. good experiences with it. I accidently set a gas line on fire at the last school I was at and nearly blew it up." Not something she's happy to talk about, but at least she CAN talk about it now. The puck is struck, and so it begins again.

Logan pats the puck back and forth rather casually, deliberately paying less than full attention to his game so as to give Aquilla a fighting chance. "Yeah. Not many people around here who /haven't/ had some kind of a bad experience with their powers. Kind of amazing we don't have more accidents than we do around here, when you think about it."

Aquilla somehow doesn't seem to be as focused on the game now herself. She manages well for awhile, though eventually it costs her another point, to which she casually retrieves it. Again, not a common player. "I suppose you're right about that. The thought does scare me a little. I guess I worry a little bit about it happening again. The last time, people got hurt. Could've been much worse..."

Logan grimaces for a moment and nods, then replies, "Yeah, I hear ya. And just a suggestion? If you hear me having a nightmare some night, keep a little distance from me until I wake up. The good news is, we've got some of the best doctors and healers available. And we've got /lots/ of emergency plans around here."

Aquilla nods a little, though she can't help but seem a little curious at the prospect. Her inquiry to that's meant to be more of a humorous one, even if it does sound a bit nervous. "Not going to stab me if I try to wake you up, are you?" She's got a lot to learn, obviously.

Logan grimaces at Aquilla's question. "If I'm having a nightmare, I might," he replies, seriously enough to probably give Aquilla the heebie-jeebies. "I did once, to Rogue. Fortunately, she could steal some of my healing factor to put her to rights."

Aquilla widens a little at the thought of it, seeing her humor turn into something else. "I see...." Well, sort of, anyway.. "Well, I've set my blankets on fire before when I had a bad dream. Always a cheerful thing to wake up to.." Then again, maybe not.

Logan is distracted enough to let in a goal against him. "Nice one," he puts in, though it was largely his own lack of attention that allowed the goal. He flips the puck out and raps it smartly. "Yeah. Lotsa bad dreams around here, too. Anyway, if it's any consolation, it was only the one time, and I've been woken from nightmares plenty of other times since then. But if you need to wake me? Poke at my feet."

Aquilla perks as she actually manages a score. That was nice of him, she thinks.. She nods in understanding. "I'll keep that in mind." She tries to find more to keep the conversation going, less it fall into something dull. "It sure looks.. different downstairs than it does up here. I wasn't quite expecting that heading for the gym, down there."

Logan looks up from the table for a moment and smiles. "Yeah, seriously. It's a very different place. Though do remember that students aren't allowed all over the underground floors -- 'cept the gym, of course. But it's ...got a lot of variety to it. And there are places to really let your powers go, which is a relief."

Aquilla nods, looking quite serious. "I don't plan on snooping around if I shouldn't. I /am/ a little curious about it all.,, I'd be happy just learning how to control what I'm able to do so I don't end up hurting someone accidently."

Logan smiles wryly. "Yeah, that's a pretty big part of what happens for a lotta kids; learning to control their powers. I'm not usually a big part of that training, but I think you'll find that practicing your powers in a controlled environment will help almost anyone."

Aquilla nods, her train of thought broken by the sound of the puck once again going through her goal. She notes the score with a light giggle. "Safe to say that you're beating the pants off of me at this game." Well, at least she's got a reason to practice it, now.

Logan chuckles as well. "Yeah, well. If we ever play a Survivor-style fire making game, I know you'll kick my ass into a whole new shape." Though it would of course be easier for her to win than for him to win this one. "So. I haven't looked at your file yet. Where're you from, before here?"

Aquilla affords a little laugh with that one. Part of her wants to ask about the other fire-maker that was here before she arrived, but she'll save that for later, perhaps. She's perfectly willing to answer, though figured her accent would give it away. "London. I lived in England my whole life before I moved here."

Logan ahhs and nods. "Nice city, London," he replies. "Don't s'pose I'd wanna spend my whole life there, but it's not bad. How're you likin' this side of the pond, eh wot, guv'nah?" Logan's cockney accent is terrible, it sounds like it's intentionally terrible.

Aquilla peers at Logan's attempt at mimicing the accent with a faint smirk, the word 'bollocks' coming to mind, though she lets it fade into a smile. "I'm still getting used to the change of scenery, but it's not bad. I rather like this school so far, and the folk here are pleasant to be be around. Well, most at least." Thoughts briefely dwell on that little incident at the park.

Logan's mouth quirks wryly. "Yeah, here in the school, it's all nice, all the time. Gives a little bit of a culture shock if you venture into the city." Of course, Logan is probably one of the few teachers who doesn't always fit into the 'nice' category. "It's nice to be able to get back here, after being in the city, where it's a lot less...confined."

Maybe he isn't, but so far he seems to be nice enough to Amara. She could still definitely picture him being in the 'not-so-nice' catagory. He just looks the part pretty well. "I'm sure I'll get used to things, eventually."

Logan knocks the puck around, then stops to actually look up at the clock. "Hell, it's not so much with the early any more. I should go pretend to be a responsible adult for a while."

Aquilla nods a little. "We'll just say you won," she says.. If it's not blatantly obvious, anyway... Again, thoughts dwell on the park, so she asks while it's on her mind.. "I don't suppose they can teach us self-defence here too, can they?"

Logan chuckles as he reaches to turn off the table and recover his soda. "Yeah, we do. I actually wind up doing a lot of that. And it's good to know what you're doing with powers and without. Though I have to admit, making an assailant burst into flames would probably be pretty distracting."

Aquilla heh's softly. "Very true, though I'd prefer something like that being more of a last resort if it can be helped." She's obviously not a violent girl by nature, but she's come to appreciate the fact that knowing how to take care of yourself is a given with the way the world is lately. "I'll try to be a good student," she offers with a smile, not wanting to take up more of his time. "It was nice meeting you again. Logan, sir."

Amara and Logan meet in the mansion's Rec Room. Casual talk ensues, along with a bout of air hockey! :)
