Thanks to Wes-player for another great scene!
<< XS >> Wesley and Quark's Room - LV2(#863RA)
A standard dorm room here at Xavier's. Two twin beds that can form bunk beds or be left separate, two desks with room for both computers and homework, two chairs, two bookshelves, two dressers. Two closets, too. Sensing a theme yet? There's a bathroom shared with the room next door, accessable through a sliding door on the side wall. A bay window with a gorgeous view of the grounds also boasts a comfortable built-in window seat with storage cabinets underneath. Combined with the high ceilings, hardwood floor and airy plaster and moulding, this is clearly a setting somewhat swanker than a college dorm might be, although personal touches reflecting the occupants' taste are apparent.

Mid-evening on a weekday night. But there is no school and thus no guilt at spending the entire day doing nothing. Off campus, even. But now it's back to the room, and Wesley clomps through the door, launching his backpack across the room toward his bed and closes the door behind him. "AHA!" he says, leaning against the closed door. "Got you cornered now. So.... what gives, Q?"
Quark grins at the sight of his roommate and his perkiness, which is probably a side-effect from spending so much time with Jubilee in Europe. He offers a small wave from his spot on his bed, having taken the time to (reluctantly) set his book down. "Hey Wes, how're you?" An eyebrow is arched curiously, and he continues in an innocent tone, "...What do you mean?"
"You're not going anywhere," Wesley says, leaning against the door for effect. Then, "I, uh, had Forge put up a teleporting dampening field in the room. So.. uh, yeah. You're /really/ not going anywhere," he adds, lamely trying to put up some excuse. Then giving up on that approach, he follows the pack, crossing the room halfway before a quick jump sends him flopping onto his bed. One practiced roll, and he's staring at his roomie arms folded behind his head. "Don't give me that. You. Paige. What gives? You been walking around all day like the cat with a canarie."
Quark blinks for only a moment, before he laughs. A smile makes its way onto his face. "Riiiight. Not that I doubt Forge couldn't make one, of course." And, of course, at the mention of Paige his smile turns into a sheepish grin, and he idly runs through a hand through his hair out of habit and blushes. "Oh...her. Heh." She told him not to mention it to anyone yet, but...surely, Wes has already figured it out by now? "...Yeah. Umm..." His blush deepens. Oh, how to explain it. "Well, I sort of...like her." is offered in a quiet, sheepish tone.
"No duh, Sherlock," Wesley sighs, rolling his eyes. "Of course, /her./ And what's with the sort of? Don't make me come pound it out of you," he grins. Roommates don't count as part of that 'anyone,' of course.
Quark pauses for a moment, bites his lower lip in thought, and then figures he might as well tell him the full truth. "Ok, ok! So I really like her." He glances around the room, as if afraid someone might be eavesdropping. A mischievous grin takes over the expression on his face, and he continues, "Don't tell anyone, but she and I are...well, we're dating." He blushes again, yet his grin widens. Teenage relationships are so confusing sometimes. "It's a /long/ story. But that's the gist of it."
Wesley's grin goes all conspiritorial and he gives an approving nod. He slides up to sit against the wall. "Quark's the maaaan. Well, good for you, buddy. So, spill. When?" See, guys talk about relationships too. Even if it is more for a good slap on the back.
Quark leans back with his own head leaned up against his pillow on his part of the wall. He takes a deep breath before beginning--because this is just one of those 'deep breath' sort of stories. "Well...as I mentioned, Noren and I broke up a few weeks ago." He pauses; ok, still a bit more touchy on that than he thought. Better change the subject. "I met Paige right around then. At the time, Paige was 'dating'--" His use of implied quotation marks is evident. "--this guy named Justin, who turned out to be from the Brotherhood. And after he killed someone in that little jail break incident the other day, they broke up," he explains in a suddenly quiet, angry tone. Another pause, before he finishes with a sigh, "So I tried to talk to her the other day, to make her feel better. And..." He waves a hand, as if that sums the rest of the story up. "And she kissed me. And I kissed her back. And that's pretty much the whole thing, so far."
Wesley whistles slowly. "Brotherhood. They sure seem to be getting a lot more... active lately. But sounds like good timing for you guys anyways. And yeah, she's a looker. Met her the other night. Taught her some Mario Cart. Seems pretty nice. Kissed her. Well, good for you."
Quark nods seriously, grin fading slightly again at the mention of the Brotherhood. "Can't say I'm too happy about that. This Justin person--Chrome--really hurt her. Broke her heart, I think. She's pretty young and all...might've been her first kiss ever, for all I know. That kind of thing would really upset her." He turns to Wes, shrugging a little. "But yeah, I kissed her." Quite a bit, actually. On several occassions. Ahem... "So, what's up with you? I haven't really had much chance to talk to you lately. Got any exciting plans for this upcoming semester?" And /no/, he's not trying to change the subject. Honestly!
"Had enough excitement for a bit," Wesley shrugs. "Wish my pictures would hurry up and be ready already. Want to show you guys. But this semester. Sticking around here to keep training with Scott. They'll probably have me on the dish brigade or something to earn my keep. I'll probably try to get some kind of job too, just to keep busy. Man, still kinda hard to believe highschool's done sometimes. Kept so busy this summer and all."
Quark nods at the mention of pictures, yet at the mention of staying around, Quark perks up entirely. He sits up and, that trademarked quirky grin on his face, he replies excitedly, "You're sticking around at the school? Awesome! I'm going to be taking a semester off of schooling, too, to work on my powers and help out with Dr. McCoy. I'll be helping him with some stuff for his classes, I think. I'm not entirely sure yet. But I finally had a one-on-one chat with Professor Xavier the other day, and Scott, and they both agreed that I could get some more Danger Room time in. So I'm /totally/ psyched." He pauses for a moment, and adds in after a thought, "Hey, how are you with your powers, by the way? I mean, have you been trying new stuff or anything?"
"Dude, awesome. Guess we'll just have to be roommates a while longer then. If you can put up with me, 'course," Wesley grins. "New stuff? Not really, no. Getting pretty good at stabilizing water, though. I can get it to hold up for a few hours after I change it, sometimes. I guess, well, not exactly new, but... well, ready to start trying to experiment more with... with me." He squints down at his hand, the effort visible, though having its reward when his hand shifts to a transparent blue. "Guess I want to try to see how far I can take it. Guess I was a bit to chicken before. Did I ever tell you about the time I got it stuck like that for a couple days?"
"Oh, I /suppose/ I can handle being with you a while longer," he replies jokingly with that same grin on his face. "I think you might find that you're capable of more things than you know. Maybe your powers just needed more time to develop, you know? I mean, Jean talked in one of her advanced biology classes about how the X-factor gene can often exhibit a delayed mutation, so maybe your powers will develop with time? I bet you'd like to be able to do more than shoot water pistols out of your fingers," he teases. "And yes, I recall you mentioning that. Have you tried doing more than an arm at a time?" he suggests.
Wesley's eyes glass over slightly at the technical explanation, though he tunes back in toward the end. "Yeah, well a heck of a lot more useful then when I first came here couple years ago," he grins. "That's for sure. More than one arm...?" he hmmms, sounding a bit skeptical. "Not tried it before, no."
Quark he tilts his head and studies Wesley the way he would a research project. Well, sort of. It's more like he's running through a list of ideas brought about by this new bout of curiosity. "You should try that somtime," he suggests. "Maybe if you could transform more of yourself into that substance, it could be useful in a combat scene or something. I'm not quite sure," he admits with a sheepish grin. "Maybe your water-based powers are more powerful when you yourself are part water? Or something?" Ok, that last bit is more of a complete guess, as he really doesn't know that much about the latent extent of Wes' powers. He grins, and after a pause, changes the subject to something else that has been perking up his curiosity. "So...are you and Jubilee sort of...well...are you?" As if that explains it all.
"Oh," Wesley exclaims, suddenly remembering. "Also, Logan gave me an idea once I'm still trying to figure out how it could work. Hydropump. Thought maybe I could use it for superstrength or something. How awesome would /that/ be?" And that little bit out, he now focuses on the latter question. "Naw..." he shrugs. "We just... hang out. Make trouble. Don't get me wrong--she's pretty hot and all. Just don't think she's interested in me like that."
Quark grins mischievously, but nods. "Alright, alright. Well...you'll never know unless you ask, though, right?" He winks, yet makes no more comment about that topic. Instead, he grins with a small chuckle. "Hydropump, eh? And superstrength? Man, that'd be sweet. And if you can take moisture out of the air, you could probably keep yourself hydrated better. You always seem to get so thirsty after you use your powers now. Kind of like how I always get blurred vision when I use my X-rays," he nods knowingly.
"Yeah, whatever," Wesley grins. "I'll leave the romancing to you and Bobby. But yeah, I'll talk to Scott about all that water stuff and see what he thinks. Been working on all kinds of stuff, not just powers. But yeah, speaking of thirsty, I'm out of water," he says, kicking the empty box from underneath his bed. "Headed down to the kitchen for something. Wanna come or want me to bring ya something?"
Quark grins, retorting with a grin, "Even I don't presume to be as much a flirt as Bobby. And, hey, wouldn't it be awesome if Scott actually scheduled us to do some sessions together?" He grins like a kid who just got a new batch of toys at Christmas. "I'd enjoy that a /lot/. Maybe we could have a friendly competition, too," he winks and laughs happily. With a shake of his head, he replies, "Nah, I'm fine, Wes. Thanks anyway though." He yawns and grabs his book as his roommate heads off, flipping back to his saved page. "I'll probably be hitting the sack soon, anyway. But we need to hang out some more sometime. When I can get some time off of work," he mutters.
"Definitely," Wes nods, launching off the bed for the hallway. Crossing the room, he punches Chris on the shoulder before heading out. "You, stud you. Don't be keeping any more secrets from me." And with that, he's off to rehydrate.
Wesley (OOC) says, "Well, thanks for the scene. If you want to have a closing pose, I can wait"
Quark rolls his eyes at that, yet laughs as he glances at Wes over the top of his book as he heads out. "Very funny, Wes. But don't worry, I promise not to hide anything like this from you again. So, my secrets are safe with you," he grins. "Goodnight," he offers with another small wave as the teenager takes off, eagerly getting back to his book for at least a few more minutes.
A small chat between roommates at the end of a long day, about Paige, powers, and life. Now that he's actually on the same continent, and all.
