Title: As Is
Author: eva_roisin
Summary: Charles adjusts to life as a teacher.
Recipient: st_aurafina
Request used: I'd love to see Charles settling into his life as a teacher - putting aside his obvious love of adventuring, figuring out curricula, dealing with his disability. Extra bonus points if you can work the Americans with Disabilities Act into the story, ( Read more... )

This is lovely. I love your characterization of Charles - still pretty much the young man from XMFC, but slowly getting on his way to become his older self. As someone who has written recovery of physical trauma herself (characters I like constantly seem to be losing legs in the source canon), I also very much liked the subtle and unobtrusive way in which you dealt with the ways in which Charles tries to cope, many of them not all that healthy. Young Charles is a remarkable man but with a lot of blind spots, and you captured that very well.

Thank you! I also find myself drawn to characters who have disabilities or injuries, so it means a lot to me that someone who shares this particular imperative found this story believable. I appreciate the comment!

A very touching story, with great moments of the mansion after the movie. I'd love to see more of this.

These beautiful, wonderfaul, sad young men... It's heartbreaking and perfect at the same time.

This story is awesome!

Hank's frustration with Charles' obtuseness/lack of attention is really interesting. Charles sometimes intrudes too much but other times, he holds himself at too far a remove. I love that Charles finds himself drawn to Alex and that he lets him (/makes him?) go, although I hope Alex is truly going to be able to make a decision about what he wants from life. The scene between them at the end was a little creepy.

I really liked the "as is" theme.

There should be an action/adventure sequel in which Charles and Hank break into the CIA!
