Translation: non.no 2010.03.20

Today I went to hang out at my friend's place and saw this issue of non.no *____* I grabbed the magazine and my friend's laptop and didn't bothered to spare the poor aforementioned friend a look before I finished translating the whole thing LOL

When I went home and skimmed a little around the fandom I came to the shocking realization that the scans of this issue have been up since a week ago. Seriously... the things you can miss when you have too much information flowing on your friends page...

Anyway, here's the translation, simply because I want to properly follow the series (and yes, my ichiban is in this issue, not to mention my ichiban and his best friend in the next issue, I'm SO following this up!)

Some T/Ns before you read:
♥ In Japan, White Day is celebrated on March 14, exactly one month after Valentine's Day. Basically, Valentine is for the girls to give the guys they like chocolates & confess, while White Day is the reverse: the guys are the ones to give presents to the girls, presumably in return of the favor they previously received on Valentine. If you want more information, just google the word White Day, google is convenient ^___^v
♥ Baumkuchen is a very popular type of cake in Japan (one of the most popular, also one of the most expensive, so said my friends who's studying over there). More information & some images available on wikipedia
♥ Nagoya Grampus Eight is a Japanese football club, and they have a very famous & strong team at that! Well, their name has been changed to just Nagoya Grampus (minus the "Eight" part) at the start of the 2008 season though. As you'll see from the talk, this information is apparently not updated in Shou chan's system LOL
♥ Forest Girl, or Mori Girl in Japanese, is a buzzing fashion trend :D Take a look at some photos here

Okay... now to the talk:

Ohno Satoshi X Sakurai Shou

Vol.31 - 「Sweets’ Arashi」
Surrounded by sweets: cakes and macaroons ・ Smile ♥
They let us listen in on a swee~t talk about sweets (?)

Made by Riida!
Made by Shou kun!

The pastry I've always loved since I was a child is roll cake
Recently I was really impressed by the flavor of a baumkuchen

「Because it’s a White Day issue」, the theme Matsumoto kun thought of for the occasion is “sweets”. After the photo shoot with the girlish pastries, they challenged the making of cookies in the shape of the title! Ohno kun kept saying 「This is fun ♪」 while smoothly drawing the kanji, whereas Sakurai kun went 「This is so nerve-wracking!」as he cautiously & carefully drew the alphabet characters. Their finished products look simply amazing. We proudly present you the “sweets talk” as the 2 of them bathed in a sweet fragrant ♥

Every bite of our 10th anniversary celebration cakes was delicious!

Shou: To tell the truth I’m the type that don’t usually eat much sweets. If you think about it, all 5 of us in Arashi are the same, right?
Ohno: Um, you’re right. The only one who relatively seems to be attracted to pastries is Nino……
Shou: He eats everything, not limited to sweets only, right? As for me, when I’m hungry, I would automatically reach out for dried plums or salted fish or something similar (laugh). On the other hand, it’s apparent that everyone likes sweets regardless of their eating habit. Satoshi kun, is there any sweets that is memorable to you?
Ohno: In my teens, I was addicted to tiramisu. I used to buy them from convenient stores all the time.
Shou: Roll cake has always been my favorite for a long time. Even now, from time to time I’d end up buying one on impulse. Right, didn’t we receive a lot of cakes in celebration of our 10th anniversary last year?
Ohno: It was the most I have ever eaten in my entire life!
Shou: Surely the 2 of us shared the same opinion: that 「Cakes are so delicious!」(laugh).
Ohno: (in a serious tone) The sweets these days are all so tasty. The other day, I got to eat a famous baumkuchen that a friend of mine recommended. It was nothing short of an eye-opener~.
Shou: Me too, recently I enjoy eating chocolate when I wake up so much that I become a fan of waffles with chocolate filling. I guess, little by little, I’m getting more interested in sweets. I’m still nowhere near the level of enthusiasm that girls have though. If a girl asked me to stand in a long queue with her to enter a shop, I’d most likely say 「I’ll wait for you inside the car」(laugh).
Ohno: Girls pay a lot of attention to every detail, from the sweet flavor to the cute appearance, right? My older sister also has quite a sweet tooth; she makes lots of pastries by herself too. What’s more, the things she makes are all super yummy.
Shou: Amazing! I really admire people who can make pastries. By the way, regarding the coming White Day, do you have any memory about this occasion?
Ohno: This time last year I was doing a drama, so I drew a picture as a return gift for all of my co-actresses.
Shou: That is so cool! When I was at primary school, once, I had a lot of trouble choosing the gifts and ended up giving away a Nagoya Grampus Eight mug. That’s because I thought it would look the most sincere if I choose a gift that I myself would be happy to receive (bitter laugh).
Ohno: Makes us wonder what would be the correct thing to give away, right?
Shou: That’s true (laugh). Somehow candies and marshmallows seem to be the standard.
Ohno: (in a seemingly surprised tone) So it’s not white chocolate? I wonder if the other 3 members know about these stuffs?
Shou: I’m not sure either. Aiba chan looks like he would choose animal-shaped cookies as the gift (laugh).
Ohno: I think MatsuJun would give away something that he himself makes. Some adult-like snacks that would go well with sake.
Shou: Nino would search for some refined, stylish item of white color to go for the decisive win, maybe. Satoshi kun, what would you do?
Ohno: Umm…... (he seems undecided) Ah, we’ll go fishing together. Then, I’ll present her with a white fish ♪
Shou: Wow~, such a unique and manly taste! Well then, for me, I think it’s time to hunt for a new mug…… Wait, is it really okay to end things like this (laugh)?

A preview of next issue?
Next Sakurai Shou X Aiba Masaki

The next theme is decided by Riida!
「Lately, “forest girl” is quite in vogue, right? Shall I have the 2 of you become “forest boys” ♪? With “outdoor” as the talk’s theme. I’m a total supporter of the sea though!」

Next issue's theme is...
「Forest’s Arashi」
