Who wants to see Shou and Jun together on a journey? Jump in!
Sakurai Shou X Matsumoto Jun
Vol.24 - 「Journey’s Arashi」
As the autumn reaches its peak, these two journey-lovers set out on a small trip. We got to listen to a journey-themed talk concerning everything from their memorable places to their ideal ways of spending time during the trips
For me, a journey is the best way to refresh myself
After resetting my heart with a journey, I’d feel like trying my best once again
In the previous special issue, in response to the question 「If you had a one-month vacation, what would you do?」, their immediate reply was 「A trip!」. They are the two renown journey-lovers Sakurai kun X Matsumoto kun. To answer Ohno kun’s request of 「Talk about where you would like to go and how you would want to spend your time!」, the two of them engaged in a “journey talk”.
If the 5 of us go together, naturally, it must be Hawaii! We’d definitely have lots of fun ♪
Jun: Riidaa chose such an interesting theme for us! Both of us have gone to many places before, so for Shou kun, where was the place that left the most impression in your heart?
Shou: Talking about “impression”, it’s got to be the India trip (laugh). I wanted to see the Taj Mahal but couldn’t catch the train on time. In the end, it took me 6 hours by car to get to the place. (He looks quite cheerful) On the way, I had an engine stall and a flat tire. The trip was super fun thanks to all those incidents happening one after another!
Jun: Now that was indeed what we call “a man’s journey” (laugh).
Shou: True, rather than “a trip”, I guess it was much closer to “an adventure” (laugh). Talking about that, MatsuJun, don’t you also usually go to some pretty hardcore places?
Jun: This year I’ve been to Arizona and Yakushima. (T/N: more info on Yakushima on
wikipedia) At Arizona, I simply spent time wandering around in the wilds. At Yakushima, I went on a trekking tour. I enjoy immersing in the scenes of the nature or some grand structures, the types that would make me wonder 「How come such an amazing thing can exist here!?」.
Shou: For me, the epitome of traveling lies in the experience of “savoring the true flavor of the place”. Maybe that’s why I’m fascinated by Asia countries - they are always full of vigor.
Jun: Looks like Shou kun is really good at planning for trips. What is the style you usually go with?
Shou: My decisions to go on a trip are usually made right before the departure, but once I decided on a journey, I would buy a guide book and use it to make a thorough plan, down to the smallest detail - that’s the type of person I am. For example, if I’m going to spend 3 days there, the first 2 days would be to visit all the well-known, must-see spots, then on the 3rd day I would take a walk to wherever I feel like and see if I can discover something new. From early morning till late night, my days are full of schedule and arrangement (laugh).
Jun: I am totally of the no plan type. I will find someone who’s knowledgeable about the place I’m going to and leave everything in their hands. They’ll draw up a full schedule for me (laugh).
Shou: Uwah, that’s such a smart way of doing things (laugh)! You know, when I’m traveling I’ll definitely record a video. When I return, I’ll burn a DVD and think up a specific title for each chapter. That’s really fun.
Jun: And then you can watch it together with your friends, it sounds quite exciting! By the way, have you decided on the place you want to go for the next vacation?
Shou: Vietnam, I guess. How about you, MatsuJun?
(X Monster’s comment: this one line of Shou chan made me scream like a mad girl into my computer screen LOL curious about what I screamed? Something along the line of “hell yes, Shou chan, you, come, to, Vietnam, right now!!!” Seriously, Shou chan is bad for the heart and the throat. Oh God please please please give Shou chan a vacation and make him come to my country, and along that line, please make him run into me, or me into him, whichever way is fine *earnestly pray*)
Jun: I’m thinking about Spain, or maybe Italy……
Shou: Sounds nice. If you want to go with a girl then Europe would be a good destination too. If I were to go on a trip with MatsuJun, I guess Arizona would be good for the two of us?
(T/N: I’m NOT trying to make this sentence of Shou chan sound overly suggestive or anything ok? *innocent face* that’s what he really said, I swear)
Jun: I do recommend that place~ Well then, if all 5 members of Arashi go on a trip together, where would be good!?
Shou: As expected, it just has to be Hawaii (where they held their debut conference) (laugh) ♪ Aiba chan would head for the sea as soon as he arrives; MatsuJun and I would go around exploring everything; Satoshi kun and Nino, the two of them would stay inside their rooms…… When all 5 members are assembled, I definitely want to ride a banana boat!
(T/N: you know, in Japanese, people don’t usually indicate clearly whether the nouns are plural or singular, so if you want to think that Shou chan said “the two of them would stay inside their room” - without the “s” - you are free to do so, ufufufufu)
Jun: I want to see a fire dance too (grinning). If only everyone could go together, we’d surely have fun all day long.
Shou: It’s going to be a great change of mood for all of us, no doubt. I think the best thing about a trip is that it’s the best way to refresh.
Jun: We’d come home after we fully reset ourselves. Then we’d be able to think 「From tomorrow, again, I’ll be trying my best」. From now on too, I want to continue to go on a lot of different journeys!
