Today they’re aiming to steal everyone’s heart with these chivalrous rock ‘n’ roll looks! To the 2 of them, what does “rock” means?
Last time with the topic of 「Hair’s Arashi」, Aiba kun X Matsumoto kun took on the challenge of a new style. In this issue, receiving the request of 「Today let’s go with a rock image change!」 from Sakurai kun, they attempted to put the world around them under a new, rock-style light: about music, about way of life, about the other members. At times their talk would get truly passionate, at times they would casually display their playful nature (laugh). Here comes the talk on the theme of “rock”!
It’s not about stereotypes, we truly do admire the rock lifestyle!
Aiba: Today’s outfits and setting are totally different from last time’s “forest boy” (laugh).
Jun: The theme this time is, once again, quite a fresh one. Didn’t it feel like we were able to understand a little more about what it’s like being rockers (laugh)? Aiba chan, talking about “rock”, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?
Aiba: If it’s about music, I’d think of Aerosmith and Bon Jovi. I listened to them a lot when I was in junior high.
Jun: My favorite is The Rolling Stones. I have watched their DVDs many times before, really, they are always cool no matter how much time has passed. Say, isn’t there this certain daring image that we usually associate with rock?
Aiba: I know what you mean! Like, boldly plunging forward on one’s chosen way, following only the voice from one’s soul, that kinda feeling.
Jun: That’s it. They’re able to hold on firmly to their own conviction, even if it makes them a stranger to the rest of the world. What’s more, that style is something they’d pursue for life, and the older they get, the more devoted they become. When I see someone like that, I can’t help being moved by their resolution.
Aiba: They’re admirable (with empathy). Well then, going with this flow, shall we try discussing Arashi’s “rock side”? First, about music……
Both: I don’t think we have any rock song~ (laugh).
Aiba: Because our discography is full of refreshing love songs (laugh). But, putting rhythm and tempo aside, there are songs in which we expressed the things we ourselves want to convey. In one way or another, isn’t that also rock-like?
Jun: Such as 『COOL&SOUL』 or 『Re(mark)able』 (both are famous rap songs written in celebration of and played a key part in their major tours), right? As we progressed with the music composition and the concert’s production, the single resolution we had was 「Let’s make this a song to remember」. When Shou kun put the finishing touch to the beats and our work was finally complete, we sure got all overly excited!
Aiba: When we actually performed those songs at the concert, we shouted “Yosh, let’s go!” before heading out, right?
Jun: (smiling fondly) Iyah, back then, Arashi sure was full of passion (laugh). These days, do we still have that rock-like element inside our group?
