On a pretty unrelated note, despite all of my inner complaints about JE treating Arashi like cows to be milked, the latest single is growing on me, fast! What about you girls?

Vol.36 - 「Summer’s Arashi」
An afternoon in the park, with excitement on the rise. Let’s have an early experience of summer with this make-believe festival!
The baton was passed from Ninomiya kun with 「Have a talk about your memories of summer and your plan for this year’s!」, and thus Aiba kun X Sakurai kun headed for the park. Goldfish scooping game, shaved ice, cotton candy,...... we have the joy of a festival at its maximum. In between the photo shoot, we even got to witness the two’s kindness as they called out to the grade school kids who gathered around to play baseball: 「Want some shaved ice?」 (Sakurai), 「Good luck with the game!」 (Aiba). Surrounded by that warm and fluffy atmosphere, the “summer talk” will now commence ♪
Talking about summer, back then, it was all about festivals, now, as expected, it’s all about concerts!
Aiba: It’s been such a while since I last went goldfish scooping. I unexpectedly managed to scoop up a lot, fully satisfied ♪
Shou: The shaved ice also brought back a lot of memories~! I used to like the blue Hawaii flavor a lot.
Aiba: I preferred the lemon flavor. Making the cotton candy was pretty difficult, wasn’t it?
Shou: I got to understand that, ah, so the price of cotton candies sold at food carts must also include the technical expense (laugh). Aiba chan, you used to go to lots of festival, didn’t you?

Aiba: Um! My objective is always the anzu ame.
(T/N: anzu-ame (literally “apricot candy”) is a kind of Japanese sweet made from fruits, usually sold at festivals. It is called anzu-ame because the most important ingredient is apricot sweet vinegar. Take a look:

Shou: That one is really delicious! The thing I used to look forward to the most was the shooting game. After all, holding a pistol is the dream of every kid, right? (laugh)
Aiba: I know what you mean. It sure made us all excited (laugh).
Shou: Talking about Aiba chan’s summer, I have this impression that you once went to help carry a mikoshi.

Aiba: Right, right. Ever since I was old enough to understand, I have always looked up to the power of the mikoshi. The mikoshi bearers dress uniformly in hanten and wear the same hair style - they look like they’re all burning with passion, so very cool. Then, when I was in high school, I once got accepted as one of the bearers.

Shou: When we have become Arashi too, didn’t you participate in that for a short while? At the time of (the movie) 『Pika★nchi』, after the filming was finished, as I was having my regent hairstyle taken down, right next to me, Aiba chan, you were having your hair done in regent style to go to a festival. 「A change of places!?」, it was. I remember such a thing happened (laugh).
Aiba: (recalling things) There was that incident, there was~! About Shou chan’s summer, I have an image of the sea.
Shou: That’s true. In the old days I often went with my family and we would stay there overnight. When I became old enough to get a driving license, I started to head for the sea whenever I feel like going for a drive.
Aiba: Talking about the other members’ summer……
Shou: I can imagine them quite easily! Surfing for MatsuJun, fishing trip for Satoshi kun, games for Nino (laugh).
Aiba: Perfect (laugh). You know, I’ve gone surfing with MatsuJun lots of times already, it can be quite addicting. And now in my head I’m slowly visualizing Riidaa sitting on a boat, grinning widely.
Shou: Nino would stay silent all the while as he plays his games, I guess. “Games that were released in summer” or something (laugh).
Aiba: Recently, I’ve found another thing to look forward to in summer. It’s barbecue!
Shou: (with a big nod) That is recent indeed~!
Aiba: How comes barbecue is so much fun? It’s just about cutting up and grilling vegetables, sometimes I would end up burning the meat until it becomes too hard to eat, yet the foods all taste so good, it’s such a wonder.
Shou: This summer, as a private plan, I’d love to have a barbecue. When it comes to work, “summer = concert” is the general impression. Last year and the year before last too, we were given the chance to hold concerts at Kokuritsu. We did the rehearsals while stripping down to half-naked and using up a whole lot of sunscreen - that kind of summer memories truly meant happiness to me.
(X Monster's comment: anyone knows any good way to sneak into a Kokuritsu rehearsal?)
Aiba: As the real performance went on, the sun started to set and the air gradually turned cooler - it felt so good, being able to experience that refreshing feeling with everyone. Ah~ talking about all that suddenly makes me feel like watching the Kokuritsu DVD ♪
