Right, I know you girls are busy squealing over the just-began Kokuritsu run, or maybe, like me, you're mulling over and over again the pressing questions: why am I not in Tokyo, Japan at this crucial moment? What am I doing here in front of a computer reading fan reports after fan reports? *sigh*
Oh well, no use drowning ourselves in the hopelessness... That's why I translated this and hoped that it'll somehow lighten your mood as well as mine. I daresay it'd be effective you know, especially if you're a fan of the charismatic Ohmiya pair (read and you'll know why I'm suddenly in the mood to use the word "charismatic", ufufufufu).
Riidaa & Nino experience their first part-time job!
Ohno Satoshi X Ninomiya Kazunari
Vol.39 - 「Part-time job’s Arashi」
On one certain day, at this certain spot, the two of them took on the challenge of handing out balloons. The break they were allowed after all the hard work was, as expected, one of a kind?

Full of awkward movements (laugh).

Surprisingly, it looks like he’s made for the job!?
The request from Masumoto kun last time was to 「Talk about the kind of part-time job you’d want to try doing once, as well as the job you admire!」. And so, one hot summer afternoon, in a certain urban neighborhood near this station, Ohno kun X Ninomiya kun challenged the task of handing out balloons, dressing up in kigurumi. What would be their impression after tasting the flavor of this part-time job debut?
(T/N: kigurumi (着ぐるみ) is, as you might have figured out by now, those mascot-like costumes that Riidaa and Nino are wearing in the photo. The word comes from 着る - kiru (to wear) and ぬいぐるみ - nuigurumi (stuffed toys), literally, it would translate to “stuffed toys that can be wore”. At first I intended to translate the word into “costumed character” or something, but after a little google-ing, I found out that the concept of kigurumi has become quite well-known recently, so I decided to leave it as it is.)
Part-time jobs look like a lot of hard work. Let’s try our best to achieve our objectives!
Nino: Iya~, that kigurumi was seriously stuffy~!
Ohno: I’ll drop dead if I have to go around in that costume for an entire day. It was hard to see what’s in front too.
Nino: We couldn’t talk either, right? (recalling things) Eh, but when I think about it, Riidaa, you at least should be familiar with kigurumi, no?
Ohno: Ah, now that you mentioned it, back when I was filming (the drama) 『Uta no Oniisan』, I had to wear those almost every day. It sure was a hard time~ (laugh).
Nino: Having to move around in kigurumi is harsh no matter if it’s for your full-time or part-time employment, isn’t it? (laugh) By the way, for students, working part-time during summer holiday seems to be the one thing they look forward to a lot.
Ohno: Heh~, I didn’t know that.
Nino: You don’t? They work part-time during summer to save up money for trips. You know, whenever I have a break, all I want to do is to stay at home, so I can’t help admiring those students’ eagerness. Back when I was younger, even if I had somehow managed to find a part-time job like this (laugh), I wouldn’t have had any motivation to go working.
Ohno: Back then, for a while, I really wanted to try working at a convenience store. These days, I’m starting to think that working part-time as a security guard at an art gallery would be nice. In that peaceful space, I’d get to silently watch over all the visitors, that sounds fantastic, doesn’t it? I’m afraid that if I ever take a seat, I’d end up falling asleep though (laugh).
Nino: I’m telling you in advance, that job does not allow you to sleep! As for me, if I have to pick a part-time job these days, of course the most important point would be the wages (in a straightforward tone). If there is a job with good and fast pay, I wouldn’t mind even if it involves manual labor or late working hours.
(X Monster’s comment: you girls, go buy Arashi CDs now, as many as you can, until you’re completely broke! How can we fangirls let our lovely, innocent Nino be that desperate for money??? It’s unforgivable!)
Ohno: I wonder what the other guys think? MatsuJun, as he himself said, seems to be addicted to the thought of working at a restaurant?
Nino: It’s “waiter at a chic café”.
Ohno: And there will soon be a special TV program reporting about “a café with a charismatic waiter who looks striking in an apron”. Next, about Aiba chan……
Nino: (instant answer) His place is at a Chinese restaurant!
Ohno: I can almost see him looking troubled inside the kitchen, saying 「This isn’t the usual taste」. As for Shou kun, I’d want him to work at a pet shop.
Nino: Great idea! For Shou chan who’s not good with animals at all, that’d be a nice challenge to overcome (grin).
(X Monster’s comment: Riidaa, don’t let that little devil Nino contaminate you, no!!!)
Ohno: I’d love to see his face full of worry as he keeps saying 「Maybe I’m not cut out for this job……」 but trying hard to hold on (laugh). (X Monster’s comment: Riidaa, did you not hear my previous plea???) For Nino, a job at a game store would be good? You’d draw people’s attention as “a charismatic shopkeeper who absolutely refuses to lose even when he’s playing against his customers”.
Nino: “Charisma” again!? Well, for Riidaa, I’d want to see you teaching kids to dance. (with a serious look) Oh and, you should teach them hip hop.
Ohno: And then, as a charismatic teacher……
Nino: I’ve had enough of that (laugh)! To be honest, you know, I think none of us would make it past the job interview. It’s not like we have much to say about our ambition and motivation when applying for that job. In the service industry, we’d have to smile all the time, we’d have to work really long shifts. When I think about all that, part-time jobs suddenly seem like a lot of hard work.
Ohno: We’d want to wish all the people who are currently working part-time good luck in achieving their objectives, right? (smile widely)

Nino: Hah~, we've worked hard!
Riidaa: Wanna eat this? It's only a bento though.
(T/N: bento = Japanese lunch box, but I guess you all know this already?)

arashi_no_jidai A preview of next issue?
Next Ninomiya Kazunari X Aiba Masaki
The next theme is decided by Riidaa!
「For the two of them who love baseball, I’d like them to discuss the charm of the sport, as well as their memories about it. I myself do not play baseball, but at a show, I got to meet Kiyohara (Kazuhiro) san once and it was a really exciting experience」
Next issue's theme is...
「Baseball’s Arashi」
(T/N: Kiyohara Kazuhiro is a really famous baseball player. He has retired in 2008 though.)
