Summary: Mikhail’s girlfriend goes missing, to what lengths will he go to in order to get her back.

Warnings: stupidity, crack!fic, minor lang., cupcakes

One evening like any other, Mikhail entered the apartment he shared with his girlfriend. He dumps his bag on the nearest chair and makes his way to the kitchen for a much needed cup of coffee. While leaning against the counter, Mikhail notices something odd. Usually when he comes home, he can hear the pounding bass of his girlfriend’s stereo coming from the room down the hall, but the apartment is eerily quiet.

“Lorelei?” he calls from the doorway. When he gets no response, Mikhail moves from the doorway towards the room Lorelei so often frequents. “Hun, are you in there?”

When Mikahil again gets no response, he opens the door silently praying she just fell asleep at the desk. But the room is empty. After a minor panic attack, the sound f the kettle distracts him and he decides to think over the situation while drinking his coffee.

He sits on the couch, elbows on his knees, coming up with every possible reason as to where she could be.

‘She could have gone to the supermarket; we are low on food….’ He thinks. ’That’s not it, we do that on Saturdays. And even still, she always waits till I’m home to ask what I want while she’s there.’

After coming up with a couple, if not somewhat ridiculous, theories - one involving a man, his pet lizard and a cupcake- he doesn’t know what to do, other than he has to get Lorelei back.

It’s over his fifth cup of coffee that he remembers something his grandmother once told him. When he was a little boy, he would frequently visit his grandmother. She was a lovely woman, always baking and telling him stories. She once told him that if he ever lost something or someone and needed to get them back, there was a legend that could help. Once one had the 13 Blood Vile Bats in their possession, they could wish for anything. Only problem was that there were very few clues as to where one could find the viles.

Mikhail ran to the computer, opened the search engine and looked up the legend. Everything his grandmother told him seemed to be true. He then looked up the origin of the blood vile bats and how they were supposed to help him. They were apparently thousands of years old, and weren’t actually filled with blood, just a blood-like substance. He also discovered that over the past 10 years all the viles had been found and brought together. They were being kept in lockdown at some historian’s house.

‘Great, now how am I supposed to get them?’

The historian also lived a good half country away. It would take him hours to get there by plane. He needed to come up with a plan…and fast.

It took him a week and three days.

He would go to the historian’s home, ring the doorbell, and run before they got to the door. After causing this distraction he would run to the back of the house and enter through the back door, because, really, who ever locked their back door? He would then run to the chest the viles were kept in, grab it and run. All while the historian was busy answering the front door. It was fool proof.

A three hour plane ride and six taxis later (what? he needed his caffeine fix), Mikhail arrived at the estate. It was just after dusk, it was now or never. Mikhail snuck to the door and pressed the doorbell. Before he was even three feet from the door, it opened.

“Hello?” Mikhail froze and turned around.

“Uh…hi…”

“Can I do something for you, sir?” the middle aged man asked.

“Um…actually…yeah…” Mikhail scratched the back of his neck and looked away. “Could I maybe, um, borrow the Blood Vile Bats that are in your possession?” The man looked at him incredulously.

“Sure…I have no use for them.”

Mikhail’s head shot up. ”Seriously?”

“Yeah, sue.” The historian said. “I’ll just grab them for you.”

“Oh…sweet. Thanks.” Mikhail stood in the stoop as the man wandered back inside the house. Not five minutes later he was back and handed Mikhail a small cardboard box.

“I never even took them out of the box they were shipped to me in. So, here you go. Enjoy.” And with that, the door was closed in Mikhail’s face.

Slightly confused, he made his way back to the road, ringing another cab. Now that he had the viles he just had to figure out how to use them.

Two night later, Mikhail was back in his own home, searching the internet once again. For his wish to be granted he needed to perform a ceremony which included candles, oil and some kind of dagger that he could only find on ebay.

‘If I had known how much work this was gonna be, I would have just called the police.’

By the end of the week he had everything he needed, not ten minutes into the ceremony, the front door clicked open and, a moment later, closed. Mikhail walked out into the hall to find Lorelei.

“Lorelei! Where have you been? I haven’t seen you in weeks!”

Lorelei turned from where she stood to face him.

“I tried calling you, but you never answered your phone. Do you not remember me telling you I was travelling fro work?”

“…Wait…what…?”

She sighed. “Mikhail, I have been in Chicago and Jersey the past two weeks for work. I told you this months ago that I would be going and I reminded you again a week before I left.”

Mikhail stood, wide eyed and confused. He didn’t remember any of this. Lorelei shook her head and sighed again.

“Mikhail, please tell me you didn’t forget and then went out on some trip to find some stupid item of legend to try and bring me back…again.”

“Heh…of course not…” he said, looking over his shoulder towards the other room.

“Oh. My. God. That’s it, Mikhail. I am fed up with this. Every time I go somewhere, this happens. I-I, This needs to end, one way or another. Mikhail,” Lorelei said looking him in the eyes, “It’s over.”

Mikhail froze, not believing what he’d just heard.

“I’m going to just grab some things and head to Vitali’s. At least he wont go bat shit bonkers when I leave for work.”

Mikhail snapped out of it immediately. “What? But..why? Please don’t do this.”

“Mikhail, please, I don’t want to talk about this right now. Plus, Vitali and I already planned on getting together and baking some cupcakes for his party tomorrow night.”

“Cupcakes..?”

“Yes, Mikhail, cupcakes. And he just got this cool pet lizard last week that I totally need to see. But right now, you should rest. I’m sure you’ve had one helluva week or two. And I need to pack an overnight bag.”

Long after Lorelei had packed, cleaned up a bit and made sure he was in bed, Mikhail was awake in bed. All he could think was that he knew it had something to do with a man, his pet lizard and cupcakes.
