"Its dissappointing almost all the time because Im really into the music but lyrically is almost always a let down. HipHop is different, I hate how its hard to make the realization that HipHop, Rap, and their cultures are very different. You're exactly right. I usually don't even bring up the subject because the majority of the people that listen to "Rap" are stubborn, but more so ignorant. And at that, most of them are also narrow minded individuals. Anything Black, rhythmic, and having deep bass is Rap to those kind of people. And if you try to say otherwise and even take the time to show them examples, they just blow it off and look at the more broad view of things like substantial things I listened above ( ... )

So I have no right (probably) to say any of this because I don't know as much about it as I probably should, plus, hell, I like some pop music, but HipHop and Rap are different. I'm just agreeing with the both of you. I tried to explain what little I know and can impart to others, but eventually I just gave up.

Though sometimes, I listen to a little rap to feel as though I'm back in Memphis.

Well I grew up on hip-hop since I was in elemnetary school cuz I grew up in East Memphis and was around the skater-esque crowd form like 3rd grade till 6th. But I got my whole collection of music, all of it, stolen when I was in like 5th grade. Real sad.

I'm super sentimental about shit like this though. I don't know why but it just ticks me off how ignorant people are. But I love the people that are open and realize shit like you. And am grateful for it.

And don't get me wrong. I listen to some rap. I pretty much hate most of it because is so over produced and commercialized, but some of it is catchy and good.

and the funny thing about mainstrem rap music also is how so many people think these guys are lyrical geniouses.

"run girl, lemme see you drip sweat,
work that thing come girl"

I cant think of a hiphop mc that couldnt pick apart most rap songs and rock their world in a battle.

Here someone I am a superfan of and my HipHop idol lays most of this down:
used to guzzle 40's, and own a beat up Caddy ( ... )

Check teaching in different states - requirements are different depending on the state. I mean, you'd have to get licensed in that state, but not all states are as whack as Tennessee as far as education goes.

Practically all my friends here that aren't theatre majors are education majors. I haven't really heard any complaints? I mean, North Carolina isn't the BEST, but they need teachers BADLY.

My mom's a teacher and has been for...I can't even recall how many years. Ever since she was married to my dad. It's not that bad. I'm getting my K-12 teaching degree at MCA. They are going to start offering it either this coming semester or this summer. I'm actually really excited about that. I'm going to major in Graphic Design, get a Minor in Art History and Advertiesment, and get my teaching degree. That's really good, and I'm all for the work. I'm thinking about going to get my masters at either Ringling or Institute of Chicago. But that's 3 and a half years away to be thinking about.

But ya Allen. Getting a teaching degree is NEVER a bad idea. I would actually insist everyone to do that. What bad is it going to do you? A few extra hours. So what. In the long run it will be for the best.

if you want to teach, do it here at UT. c'mon..in 5 years [technically 4 and a half years] you'll have your masters. that's kick ass b/c most colleges don't have this plan. my cousin is a senior at maryville, she's majoring in teaching and she told me that she doesn't feel at all confused on what she has to teach next year.

and if you aren't really sure if you want to teach, or you want to take an easy class...take applecorps [education 100] you go to a school of your choice and grade of your choice, go there once or twice a week to help and observe teachers. every thursday we have class but you can miss class 4 times and we have less class time since they follow school closings and shit. it's such an easy class. plus you can take it up to three times if you want.

You are right in the sense that Awareness is the first step.
