i think klezmer has limited itself by only sticking to the three polyscales it uses for melodies. were it to incorporate the modal scales for which it keys, a whole variety of interesting thematic material could be generated.

I agree wholeheartedly, primarily because the traditional music is somewhat rigid despite its improvisational style.

I am pretty interested in trying some things after I make the standard 3 modes rote and can play a few classics.
