Summary: Not every morning starts the way you want it too. Especially when Valentine's Day is coming fast, and you're dateless.
Just for my buddie:
itssimplykate Key’s eyes twitched as they bright rays of light shown through the blinds. He moaned and turned on his side, blocking the offending rays with his blanket.
“Kibum-ah!” he heard someone call his name, but ignored it. ‘I went to bed at 3am. I am not waking up right now!’ he thought grumpily.
He knew he could’ve gone to bed at an earlier time, but his brain wouldn’t allow it. Valentine’s Day was coming and not having someone to celebrate it with was unheard of for Kibum. The past years didn’t matter much to him because he and Jonghyun were both Valentine less. So those days they splurged on junk food and horror movies to get their depressed minds off the fact that they were dateless. But now that his best friend had a girlfriend… It just messed up everything.
He wouldn’t even have company on Valentine’s Day. Onew and Minho had schedules that would last the whole day. Taemin’s mother asked him to come home because she ‘missed him and wanted to see her little baby before he grew up.’ (Taemin pouted) And Jonghyun was going to be video calling Shin Sekyung… He could already hear the lyrics of ‘I’m so Lonely’ playing in the background.
So when that one person kept on trying to wake him up, Key was going to bitch. And when Kim Kibum bitches, it’s like 1,000 pregnant women bitching.
“WHO THE FUCK DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? I’M TRYING TO GET MY BEAUTY SLEEP, THANK YOU VERY MUCH! YOUR CONSTANT NAGGING FOR ME TO WAKE UP IS ANNOYING THE SHIT OUTTA ME! SO CAN YOU DO US BOTH A FAVOR AND GET THE FUCK OUT?”
Key was expecting it to be Jonghyun, or Minho at least. Jonghyun usually loved playing tricks on the sleepy Umma. He had too much blackmail on him. Minho woke him up for exercising reasons. Jogging in the cold wasn’t something Key looked forward to in the mornings.
But to see Jinki standing there with the most beautiful breakfast on a tray that was obviously for him, was a surprise. The atmosphere suddenly switched its mood, filling the room with an uncomfortable silence. The younger of the two could only incredulously blink as his eyes repeatedly looked at Jinki, to the food, then back to his friend.
“I-I Just… Thought you may be hungry…” Key barely heard.
“I-I know you were up late last night, so I made you your favorite breakfast meal…” his voice trailed off, along with his unspoken thoughts.
Jinki’s eyes were downcast, not meeting Kibum’s gaze. His bottom lip being bitten to stop any more words to escape. The brunette quietly placed the tray on the nightstand beside Key’s bed, knowingly avoiding the other’s stare.
Spinning on the balls of his feet, jinki made his way to the door. Right before he shut it, he paused, his grip visibly tightening. He stood there for amoment, internally fighting with himself to act. Kibum just waited, the morning groggy-ness still hampering his brain functions. So much time passed without movement that he started to question if he had fallen asleep. Rubbing his eyes, he accidently caught his awaker’s stare.
“Sorry if I disturbed you Bum. If you don’t want it.. Just leave it there. I wont mind…”
The door closed, leaving the sleepy head to himself. It took him a second to process his current situation.
He was woken up when he was sleep deprived. Check.
He reacted the way anyone would when they got 3 hours of sleep. Check.
He noticed the hurt expression in his eyes when Jinki left and did nothing about it. Triple Check.
What a way to start off the morning.

To say things were awkward was an understatement. Everyone in the dorm had heard Kibum’s outburst at their leader that morning.
Jonghyun’s usual whiny mood vanished in an instant. On the days where no one had a schedule, he would ask for help with anything. Being the type who loved attention, he would suck up as much as he could while they were stuck in their dorm. But not today. As he poured his cereal into his bowl, he saw his hyung walk past him without a word. Quickly putting the clues together, Jonghyun didn’t question Jinki’s loss of emotion.
‘I told him it wasn’t a good idea…’
Taemin and Minho were already back to their video gaming rages. Both of them had finished their homework and wanted to relax from their promotional period. So as the younger generation, they were exceptionally enjoying themselves. Even if Minho was winning almost every round.
It wasn’t until Taemin was finished celebrating his first win against ‘THE Choi Minho’ did he notice his hyung wasn’t complaining about his defeat. Following his best friend’s gaze, he saw Jinki-hyung head for the door that lead outside.
“Hyung, aren’t you going to get your jacket? It’s below freezing outside.” Minho asked.
“I’ll be fine Mino-ah,” his mouth changing into a cringe more than a smile, “just going out for some fresh air.”
“Hyung,” the maknae started, “don’t get caught up in what Kibum-hyung said. You know he probably didn’t-“
“Who said I was?” Tae caught his breath at Jinki’s interruption. He never remembered seeing his hyung act like this. Feeling like he was being ignorant, Taemin went quiet. He didn’t want to annoy his hyung anymore than he already did. The door closed loudly a moment later.
An arm slid around his shoulder, causing the blonde to look at its owner. The warm, reassuring smile he received lightened the heavy weight in his chest just a little.
“Don’t worry Tae. Jinki-hyung is just overreacting. He’ll be better in no time.”
“I hope so Minho…”

Days past by, but Key and Onew’s relationship was still tense. Key hadn’t spoken a word to Jinki. Whenever they happened to be alone for a period of time, Key would leave the premises. It felt like he was avoiding a plague of some kind. He wouldn’t acknowledge his presence, even if the older one pleaded for a small conversation.
Everyone thought that Kibum was fumingly mad at Jinki. Truth was, he wasn’t. He was actually ashamed.
He had told his hyung off without telling him why. Maybe he already knew he had barely gotten an sleep. But that didn’t give him permission to yell at him. Plus, Jinki had woken him up with good intentions. The breakfast was simply delicious; the way it was hot and freshly made just for him. The taste melting inside his mouth with every bite. Kibum sighed and ran his hand through messy chocolate locks.
He never apologized for his actions. Never expressed his gratitude for the thought Jinki put into making breakfast. It angered him.
How could he make it up to Jinki? Taemin told him that he left that day and didn’t return until lunch time. Key slammed his fist onto the table, causing a mini earthquake to occur. He was about to punch the table again when a short ‘squeek’ entered the ar. The brunette’s head spun around to see a tuff of blonde hair hiding behind a door.
“Minnie… What are you doing?” Kibum inquired to the maknae still hiding in his already known spot.
“W-Well… I just came by to warn you t-that Jinki-hyung’s schedule got cancelled…” he pushed the door out of the way, biting his lip nervously. “Please don’t hurt hyung’s feeling anymore Umma… He’s been depressed…”
Key pushed away from his chair and walked towards Taemin. His footsteps softly reaching the maknae’s ears. He whimpered, eyes focused on the ground below him. He knew he shouldn’t have been the one to bring the bad news! The dancer mentally cried at his fate. His umma was in the worst mood. Telling him another thing that would piss him off was something they all wanted to escape from. But letting him find out they kept it a secret would’ve let the internal ‘Kim Kibum’ bomb go off.
His brown orbs widen with shock as Key encircled him within his arms.
“H-H-Hyung? Taemin cringed at hearing his voice crack. He received no reponse as the hug grew tigheter. Completely confused, the blonde wrapped his arms around the older.
“You aren’t lying, are you Tae?’ Kibum whispered, pulling away to look at him straight in the eyes.
He shook his head side to side, still wondering why his hyung was acting so strange. He gulped, noticing the change in Key’s facial expression.
“Then, would you mind helping your Umma out?”
