I really enjoy watching the numbers come in and seeing the states turn red or blue. I did it in 2000, too young to vote, wondering WTF was up with Florida switching back and forth. I did it in 2004, after I voted for Kerry, and was so proud to see my home county and home state swing his way. Like lots of people, I was disappointed in the loss ( Read more... )

As far as I know, Prop 8 seems like it's going to slink through. I'm so disappointed, but it's the third or fourth time it's been brought up on a ballot out here, I'm told, so I guess they had to win eventually. It's still a huge disappointment and stripping of rights. An embarrassment, really.

You have to understand that it's not HOMOPHOBIA. I am not a homophobic. If that person wants to do that, fine. It's not me, or my soul. I know I am supposed to go out and save souls, but if I try to make a gay man or woman understand the sin, I am labeled as a homophob.

A lot of people just don't like the word "marriage." Civil union, fine with me! "Marriage" is a religious word, and in many religions, two people of the same sex can't get "married." I believe these two people, though, should have the write to be legally bound and if something happens, the other isn't left in the dust after they lost their loved one.

So, please do not assume that just because I have my Christian morals that I am homophobic and I don't want rights for women. That's just stereotyping me, which is a worse offense.

I never said you were a homophobe and I never stereotyped you, so wtf?

"I guess I'll know when I wake if I'll be excited for equality or disappointed in homophobia."

You said that. By saying that, you assume that the reason it passed was because of homophobia. Just because people want marriage between a man and a women doesn't mean they are homophobic. In essence, you are stating that the people who want gay marriage banned are homophobics. That, again in essence, is stereotyping.

Lots of people who voted in favor of Proposition 8 did so because they don't like gays and don't want them to have any rights. THOSE people are homophobics. People who voted for in favor of it because they want gays to have civil unions, may not even realize that civil unions aren't the same thing as marriages. Those people need some education. People who are well educated and realize that civil unions have many less rights than marriages do and still voted in favor of Proposition 8? I don't know what to say about those people.

But never did I state that all people who voted in favor are homophobics. And even if I had, that statement wouldn't have included you, since PA didn't vote for prop 8. So seriously, it's time to calm down a little.

I'm not mad. I was just informing you that your generalization grouped anyone who thinks gay marriage should not be legal.

Now, if you said, "disappointed in some people's homophobia," then I would not have been a bit offended, because there you did not assume everyone that didn't want it was homophobic. And you know what assuming does....

Alright, subject dropped.
