As much Kafka as you can handle. Francesca Lia Block is fun and light, especially Weetzie Bat and The Rose and the Beast. If you like beat authors I recommend Kerouac-- On the Road is the most famous. Close to Shore is really good. Hmm Nick Hornby is another good author. Abbie Hoffman's Steal This Book! is an interesting read. Wasted by Marya Hornbacher is a good memoir, as is Death Be Not Proud by John Gunther. And you might want to read some of Allen Ginsberg's poetry.

My cousin was in the movie version of Naked Lunch.

I really liked Things Fall Apart and Metamorphosis. If you like Metamorphosis you'd probably like The Stranger. It was probably one of the most influential books I've read in a longg time.

You doing the 50 book challenge also?
