Summary: Baekhyun doesn’t expect to wake up at five in the morning to see Chanyeol wearing his shorter sweatpants and drinking a bottle of beer.

The way Chanyeol makes love to Baekhyun is breathtaking. His kisses are like whispered promises into his skin and his touches like hidden security that he will always catch him if he falls. It’s so very hard to describe the way Chanyeol makes Baekhyun feel but he always has to try when reporters ask him ‘How are you two doing?’ and ‘Do you feel envious that he will be acting in a new movie with this new hot and upcoming actress?’
Baekhyun honestly doesn’t understand why reporters try to make something big out of something so miniscule nobody can see where one end begins and where the other ends. It’s like they went to school all those years just to learn how to fabricate lies out of nothing and twist truths around to become false facts. It takes so much extra energy, he still doesn’t understand an ounce of it.
Plus, how can he have time to worry about reporters creating false news of them when he has Chanyeol moving so deeply, so slowly in him that he can literally feel the love pouring out of this man’s chest for him?
He moans when Chanyeol finally shifts enough to hit that soft, sensitive spot within him, body arching up towards his boyfriend as he clutches onto the backs of his shoulders for something to hold on to. He can feel every drag of Chanyeol’s cock inside of him, working him open so thoroughly, that it makes him even harder, thighs clenching the sides of Chanyeol’s waist to hopefully bring him in deeper.
Kisses sprinkle his face and when Baekhyun opens his eyes, he sees dark pools of lust, love, and affection staring right back at him. He moans at the sight, sound cutting off when Chanyeol dives down to kiss him messily, and he whines when he feels a warm hand still partially coated in lube grab his dick and starts to stroke it out of rhythm with his thrusts.
He’s speechless when he comes, Chanyeol gently rolling his hips as he comes along with him.
It’s five in the morning when Baekhyun wakes up, partially feeling icky but mostly feeling amazing after last night’s round of lovemaking, and he doesn’t know why he’s alone in bed when Chanyeol should be sleeping next to him. He makes his typical puppy whimpering sound, squirming underneath the sheets until he finally just sits up and sleepily rubs at an eye, comforter falling to drape across his waist instead.
The room is still dark but he feels a warm breeze circulate within their hotel room. He realizes a bit too late that the balcony doors are open and that Chanyeol is leaning against the entranceway, backwards snapback in place, and why is he still wearing that thing? Didn’t they outgrow snapbacks five years ago?
“Yeol?” he calls out, voice a bit hoarse from sleep.
Chanyeol jumps at the call of his name, quickly turning to reveal the bottle of beer he’s been holding in his hand. Baekhyun frowns.
“What are you doing up? Drinking beer, no less?”
“Nothing?” Chanyeol questions back, sheepish smile in place as he turns away from the opened balcony to place his beer on the nearby table. Baekhyun watches as he stares at the bottle for a second longer before picking it back up to take another swig of it.
Baekhyun heaves a tired sigh at the sight, ruffling his hair as he looks around for his boxers or anything to put on the lower half of his body. He frowns when he tries to search for his sweatpants only to notice Chanyeol is wearing them, hanging low on his hips just so the pants could fit the length of his legs. He gets up after that and takes the comforter with him, wrapping it around his body completely so he can walk over to his anxiety-ridden boyfriend.
“What’s wrong?” Baekhyun asks when he finally pads over to him, looking up at him with sleep still in his eyes as Chanyeol guides them out onto the balcony. Baekhyun’s immensely confused at this point, wondering what’s going on, when Chanyeol sits on one of the balcony lawn chairs and he immediately moves to sit on his lap. Nevertheless, he smiles when he leans against Chanyeol’s broad chest and looks out to the quiet, night sky of Venice, Italy.
Moments of silence pass before Baekhyun speaks again, always one for talking even if he’s talking to a brick wall. “It’s nice,” he comments, moving in close to Chanyeol and sighing in bliss when the younger responds by looping his arms around him and pulling him in closer. “We finally get to spend some days in Venice not shooting some sort of commercial or show or movie, and it’s just so nice. It’s so peaceful here.”
“Yeah,” Chanyeol quietly says in return, kissing him gently on the temple, “It is.”
“Even the people here are nice. There’s nobody trying to take our pictures out here at this ungodly hour and they respect us.” Chanyeol simply hums again to show he’s listening. “Okay, so. Maybe there’s that one crazy photographer probably scaling that tall building over there to get pictures of us, but the whole world has seen us shirtless before. We should be good, huh?”
Both Baekhyun and Chanyeol are actors, starting at the same time yet filming different movies in different cities. They never officially met each other until Kyungsoo and Lu Han introduced them at one of their exclusive backstage parties years ago, and ever since then, their friendship and relationship has been one rollercoaster ride all their friends had to endure the longer they knew them.
Everybody expected them to break up with how many scandals got in the way of movie proposals and show makings, but despite all of that, they managed to get through it stronger than before. Really, Yifan is the only one who constantly says they’re going to get married in the future whether they like it or not, and to this day, it’s still only him who believes in that, maybe now Kyungsoo too with how they were recently revealed to be dating each other by DISPATCH.
Baekhyun hums as he starts to feel sleepy again, not wanting this four-day vacation to end. He’s not ready to go back to filming until ungodly hours of the morning and only have three hours of sleep a night. He’s not ready to go back to looking over scripts for movies and television shows and commercials without Chanyeol by his side. He’s not ready to go on planes to everywhere in the world and getting jetlag like it’s the common cold.
“I got this voicemail,” Chanyeol suddenly says, voice low and deep it makes Baekhyun shiver at the intensity of it. He responds by pulling him closer for comfort. “I got it last night while we were making love.”
“Do you have to say it like that?” Baekhyun whines in embarrassment, much more ready to say ‘I rode you like a fucking rabbit last night’ instead of ‘I let you make love to me because saying ‘making love’ is embarrassing enough - just stop, please.’ It makes Chanyeol chuckle though so he stays quiet after that.
“It’s another movie proposal. Some rom-com with Lu Han and Moon Gayoung.”
With both of them being actors, trust is a huge thing they both need to have in each other, and luckily for the both of them, they have the ultimate trust in each other, already having called each other soul mates three months after they met. They always find the time to talk to each other, brushing off makeup artists or waking up in the middle of the night if one calls and texts for the other that something is emergent. Baekhyun doesn’t know why Chanyeol is hesitant about this honestly. He nods to show he’s listening.
“I don’t know,” Chanyeol eventually breathes out, both of them watching as the sky starts to lighten with the telltale signs of the rising sun. “Should I take it?”
“Why would you not?”
Chanyeol remains quiet after that, and Baekhyun has to lean away to look him in the eyes, wondering what’s gotten into his boyfriend.
“I mean,” Baekhyun continues, staring at him carefully, “It’s either this or that action movie with Zitao, right? Which would you prefer to film right now?”
“The one with you in it.”
Baekhyun’s brow furrows in confusion at the answer, hand coming out from his small cocoon to check Chanyeol’s neck for any possible fever. He doesn’t feel unusually warm. “What’s wrong, Yeol? What’s going on? You know it’s hard for us to be in movies together now.” He watches as Chanyeol grabs his hand to kiss his opened palm before moving to kiss each of his fingers lovingly. Baekhyun blushes at the attention. “Yeol?”
“What if I turned down these movie roles so we can spend the next year planning our wedding?”
“Wh-What?” Baekhyun stutters out, eyes widening as he stares at his boyfriend - maybe fiancé now? He watches as Chanyeol fidgets, eventually moving him the slightest bit to reach into the pocket of his sweatpants to dig out the ring he placed in there when he couldn’t go to sleep the night before. Baekhyun’s mouth falls open at the sudden proposal.
“After you’re done filming this movie you have with Yeo Jingoo” Chanyeol slowly says, finally looking up to meet his gaze head-on, “Let’s spend the next year planning our wedding.”
“But-” Baekhyun whispers, only to choke on his own words when Chanyeol wrestles his other hand out from under the comforter and makes sure to keep him covered as he puts the ring on his hand. “Yeol.”
“It’s about time, right?” Chanyeol whispers back, both of them admiring the ring on his finger before looking up into his eyes. “I guess Yifan was right, huh?”
“Yeol,” Baekhyun repeats, voice wavering as he stares at the ring longer. It’s a Cartier ring, and if he had to guess, Lu Han and Zitao helped the man pick it out. How stupid. “I- You can’t just stop acting for a year to plan our wedding.”
“Am I supposed to take that for a ‘no’?”
“You can clearly plan a wedding and act at the same time. Didn’t you see Jongin’s movie last year about that? It’s clearly possible.”
Chanyeol chuckles at the reasons. “Baek-”
“If you take a year off, that means I’m the one bringing in money to this family, and that’s not fair.” Baekhyun continues on, gingerly touching the ring with his other fingers. “It should all be equal but then you go out, probably with Lu Han and Zitao, and buy this ring, and spring this on me while we’re in Venice, and-”
“Correction,” Chanyeol interrupts, pulling on the comforter around Baekhyun’s shoulders to bring him in for a kiss. “Sehun was also with us when I bought that ring, and I’m taking your babbling nonsense as a ‘Yes, Park Chanyeol, I would love to marry you on a quiet beach in Qingdao because Zitao can secure our privacies there.’”
Baekhyun’s eyes are watery. He’s blinking through his unshed tears as he sees the love pouring out of Chanyeol’s eyes in front of him. He just nods his answer, frantically bobbing his head until Chanyeol laughs and holds him still before leaning in to kiss him again.
The next day as they’re walking through the airport to go back to South Korea, Baekhyun grumbles as he reaches out and grabs a magazine from one of the newsstands, their manager rushing to give the owner the correct amount of money for taking one of their properties. His ring glints brilliantly in the fluorescent lights as he reads the front page behind his sunglasses and Chanyeol wheels their large suitcase next to them with their own backpacks on their backs.
Baekhyun shoves the magazine in Chanyeol’s chest once they check-in and get on the plane. “I told you there was that one crazy photographer probably scaling that tall building next to us to get pictures of us. Damn man also got pictures of you proposing to me.”
“Are you really so upset about that?” Chanyeol laughs out, taking off his sunglasses to read the front page clearly. “Even our proposal was recorded in picture-form for the whole world to see.”
“Now, we’re going to get at least ten phone calls from our dumb friends asking why they weren’t the first to know it actually happened!”
Baekhyun eventually allows his anger to simmer when Chanyeol keeps laughing about the whole ordeal, leaning against his side as they prepare for takeoff. He doesn’t admit that the article that photographer wrote was pretty nice, and he also doesn’t admit that the ring on his finger is a million times better than anything he’s received thus far.

Pairing: Baekhyun/Minseok

Summary: Baekhyun is one of the top witch hunters in their area. He doesn’t know when he fell in love with his partner, a witch by the name of Kim Minseok.
Notes: based off anime Witch Hunter Robin
“He’s coming your way.”
Baekhyun smirks as he feels the footsteps echoing underneath his shoes and the concrete. He’s crouching low behind some boxes, ready to spring out into action at the right moment. He checks the gun in his hand, making sure there are small bullets full of blue liquid in it, before he spins and stands, shooting at the target right when he turns the corner into his aisle. He spends four bullets before the man finally collapses to the ground, minimal blood flowing from his wounds but knocked out cold.
“I got him,” he announces into his earpiece, looking around to see Amber walking around some crates and Jongin jogging over from the other side of the factory. He frowns as he looks around some more to finally see Minseok walking towards him from the entrance of the building, hands in his coat pockets.
“HQ is going to be here soon,” Amber announces as she scrolls through her phone to read the messages she’s received. “We should probably head out.”
“Yeah,” Jongin pipes up before walking over to kick the unconscious guy in the side, “He’s pretty knocked out anyways. He shouldn’t wake up for another few hours.”
Baekhyun nods as he looks to Minseok, watching as the man keeps staring at the body in front of them. He hears static in his ears before Jongdae’s voice filters through.
“Come on, you lot. Get back to base already.”
Baekhyun rolls his eyes as Amber easily picks a fight with their hacker, all of them heading out of the factory right when HQ arrives and men and women in biohazard suits storm the empty place to retrieve the unconscious witch. He makes sure Minseok is close to him when they leave.
The team of four is easily dismissed once they arrive to the third floor of their building, Yifan waving them away once they open their mouths to make their reports. But by the look of stress and fatigue on his face, Baekhyun would have to think there’s something going on with them and HQ again.
What they do here is slightly unconventional and highly unknown to the outside world. To put it simply, they hunt witches - witches that have matured and are able to use their powers completely and even dormant witches who haven’t showed any signs of their powers yet. Their job is highly unusual and they’re supposed to hunt them all.
Jongdae tracks down the ones active and disturbing the environment while the four of them, Baekhyun, Minseok, Amber, and Jongin, hunt them down. There are packs of them all over the world hoping to make it safer for the normal citizens living on it, but there’s something special with their own division. There’s a mixture of bloods involved and they have their own witch helping them hunt their own kind.
Kim Minseok came to them almost a year ago, confused and very blunt in his choice of words. He was new and assigned to be Baekhyun’s partner despite not needing one for years before then, and it took quite a while for them to find a happy medium between all the hunts they’ve done. It also helped that Amber and Jongin tried to loosen both of them up while on missions, but none of them expected the two of them to be where they are now.
Now, they’re all at Yixing’s café on the ground floor. Each of them has some sort of tea or coffee being made for them, and Baekhyun is sitting at the bar right next to a contemplative Minseok sipping an iced drink in the middle of winter. He doesn’t even understand it. It’s like winter can never truly affect this man’s body temperature and the only reason why he wears the large trench coat over his body is because it’s work regulation to help protect him from the attacks of other witches. He flushes when he sees Minseok smile into his drink.
“You know I have to wear this coat if I’m not going to wear that necklace.”
Baekhyun quickly looks down to Minseok’s coat draped over his shoulders before looking down to his own necklace resting against his chest, his jacket draped over the back of his chair. The necklaces all the workers are supposed to wear are of the same blue liquid contained in their bullets. It has an odd faint glow to it, and none of them could ever understand why Minseok refuses to wear it. It actually deflects any witches’ powers against them, but he says it makes him feel disgusting.
“So,” Yixing says from his place in front of them, leaning on the counter and simply staring at them with a small smile on his face, “How have you two been?”
“What?” Baekhyun sputters out, almost knocking over his mug at the sudden question.
“You know,” Yixing drawls out, smile widening even more, “You two.”
Baekhyun looks immensely confused as Minseok laughs, the sound brightening up the place and making Baekhyun’s heart speed so much more. “I,” he says before quickly looking to his side to a laughing Minseok, “We - We’re not-”
“We’re okay,” Minseok answers for him, sending him a wink and making him heat up even more, “We’re just here.”
“I’m going to go talk to Yifan,” Baekhyun suddenly announces, grabbing his mug of tea to bring upstairs with him, “I’ll be back momentarily.” He winces when he says ‘momentarily’ and he can hear Yixing and Minseok stifling their laughter behind him.
Maybe talking to Yifan was a bad idea, considering the fact the man is now banging his head on his desk pathetically with Jongdae trying to squeeze a pillow between his head and the desk in between each hit. He prepares himself for a harder smack, seeing Yifan bring his head back even further, but he sighs in relief when Jongdae times it right and Yifan just suffocates himself instead.
“So,” he starts off warily, flinching when Jongdae glares at him next, “Okay.”
“You are also an idiot,” Jongdae states as a matter-of-fact before pointing out the door, “Go back to Minseok.”
“Right, okay.”
Baekhyun doesn’t understand why Jongdae acts like he’s the owner of the building, even though he has to give it to the man for basically being trapped here for the rest of his life after accidentally hacking his way into the HQ database one day in university. He frowns when he sees Minseok waiting for him next to the computers.
“What?”
“I’m ready to go home.”
Baekhyun freezes in his steps at the words and he guesses he looks just as idiotic as Jongdae said because Minseok is laughing at him within the next minute. He frowns. “Why are you always laughing at me?”
“Because you’re adorable,” comes the instant response and Baekhyun feels himself heat up even more, the necklace resting against his chest glowing minutely brighter by the second.
Suddenly, the alarms go off from Jongdae’s desk, causing Minseok to jump in fright at the sudden sound. Baekhyun thinks Minseok actually looks cute too, even when he’s scared. He yelps when someone pushes past him and then Jongdae is typing a million words a minute into his computer trying to isolate the newest witch.
“I’m calling in Amber and Jongin. Get ready, you two.”
When Baekhyun manages to smoothly walk over to the duo in front of Jongdae’s computer screen, he gives Minseok a small smile in return for the one he first receives. He blushes when Minseok loops his arm with his before looking back to see the profile of the newest target.
“Oh. She’s not even a level three,” Jongdae mumbles before looking over his shoulder up at them, “Either you two can go or the other two can go, if you want.”
“We can take care of it,” Minseok says before reaching forward to scroll through the profile some more. “This witch’s power is fire, but I should be able to handle it.”
Baekhyun frowns at the information but allows Minseok to persuade Jongdae to tell Amber and Jongin they can go home instead.
Baekhyun’s pretty sure his heart has been ripped out of his chest when he sees Minseok take a hit before falling back to the ground, eyes flashing ice blue as he tries to ward off the unstable witch coming towards them. He’s canceling out all the flames heading for them and Baekhyun can’t even take a shot in fear that it’ll simply melt right on Minseok’s skin and weaken him even more.
“Jongdae!” Baekhyun exclaims into his earpiece, panic rising within him at seeing Minseok struggling to stand up and hold his hands out in front of him to create an ice barrier around them. “Jongdae! We need backup! This witch is completely unstable!”
“Shit, okay,” Jongdae breathes back, “Amber and Jongin are on their way.”
Baekhyun shuts off his earpiece then, hands reaching out for Minseok when he stumbles back far enough for him to touch him. He holds onto Minseok’s waist, feeling the frighteningly cold temperature of his witch’s body, and waits to get a clear shot with an arm resting on top of Minseok’s right shoulder. He gets it when Minseok swipes his hand to dodge a blast of fire but misses when it simply disintegrates in the witch’s flames.
“We need to cool him down completely,” Baekhyun murmurs into Minseok’s ear, wrapping his free arm around him from behind. “Can you ice him down?” When he takes a quick glance at his partner, he’s surprised to see actual sweat running down the side of Minseok’s face with his irises completely ice blue. “Minseok, are you okay?”
“Take off your necklace,” Minseok rasps out, “Get rid of it.”
The order has Baekhyun stilling, completely shocked at the request. “What?”
“You’re fully touching me, Baekhyun. I can’t focus with that thing touching my back.”
“Oh,” Baekhyun whispers quickly, eyeing his partner carefully before unwrapping his arm and tugging at his necklace before it simply snaps, tossing it away into the concrete out the window. He instantly wraps his arm around Minseok’s waist again, feeling the temperature around them drop significantly despite the contrasting heat threatening to swallow them whole in front of them. “Better?”
Minseok smirks as he twists his hands the slightest bit. “Better.”
Baekhyun watches with wide eyes as ice immediately coats the hallway they’re in, ice particles chasing each other to create a winter wonderland inside the building while freezing the witch low enough to douse her flames. But it’s not enough, Minseok still struggling to put them out completely that Baekhyun doesn’t even notice when another blast of fire is directed at them and he stares it head-on, the flames disappearing with Minseok’s ice but the witch screaming as she falls to her knees and covers her eyes in pain.
“Baekhyun!” Minseok suddenly shouts, looking over his shoulder at him, “Shoot her now!”
Baekhyun snaps out of the quick daze he was randomly sent into, eyes narrowing, as he gently moves Minseok away from him and starts shooting at the screaming witch. He shoots into her shoulders, stomach, and legs, as he approaches her and watches as she slumps over and the hallway immediately becomes chilled with her lack of heat.
“Baekhyun?” Minseok quietly questions, hearing a rush of footsteps coming from the adjoining hallway. He sounds and looks confused when Baekhyun turns to look at him inquisitively. “Did you just…?”
Suddenly, there are men attacking them. Baekhyun feels the hit in the back of his shoulder before he hears Minseok screaming his name and another ice barrier forms behind him. He’s shocked still at the shot, slowly looking over his shoulder to see an old friend standing behind and pointing his gun at him. Why is Lu Han here? Why does he look so apologetic?
“Baekhyun!” Minseok shouts again, trying to strengthen the wall of ice behind them. “We have to go!”
It’s only then that he hears Jongdae’s frantic voice in his ears.
“HQ is after you! They’re after Minseok, Baekhyun! That witch was their plan! Amber is down and Jongin’s trying to get Yifan and I out safely! You have to hide! Baekhyun! Can you copy me?! I-!”
“Baekhyun!” Minseok screams, bringing him up for a kiss. The chilling kiss is enough to snap Baekhyun out of his daze, arm completely numb as he tries to stumble with Minseok out some other way. A coat is being shoved on top of him, and Baekhyun looks up to see Minseok’s body completely turning blue. “I’m going to freeze everything in sight before we disappear.”
A building made completely of ice with its residents and cars surrounding it frozen are what greet Youngmin when he personally visits the site the next day, cursing as no traces can be found of High Witch Kim Minseok and Newly Hatched Witch Byun Baekhyun.

Summary: Ex-Summoner Baekhyun becomes a sphere hunter with his best friend Jongin at his side, searching for a man lost in time.
Notes: based on final fantasy 10, 10-2
“I’m telling you, it’s green.”
Baekhyun frowns at the orb in his hand, turning it every which way only to see the same odd, green sparkle emanating from the center of it. The orb itself looks ancient, an ugly rusted yellow color, but it’s no mistaking that it’s those treasured spheres hunters have been looking for all over the world. There’s a partially visible code engraved into one area of it and a small hole next to it, but that’s not what’s currently catching his attention. It’s that green glow coming from within it.
“It has to be from him, right?”
Baekhyun looks to his side where Jongin is leaning over his shoulder to get a better look at the orb. He looks so excited and expectant, but he isn’t sure. Green is a common color. “I don’t know, Jongin,” he mumbles, shifting his gaze away from him to look back down at the orb, “It’s probably not his. Anybody could have this green color.”
“Only after last year,” Jongin supplies, leaning in close enough to gently bump shoulders with him, “Not many spheres that look like this could be from someone other than him.”
Baekhyun bites his lip at the logic in that, still staring down at the orb contemplating what he should do. Jongin is right. Lu Han had only disappeared close to two years ago and since one year ago, other sphere users obtained the right to start recording whatever they liked with the color green attached to it like a signature. But he’d only disappeared two years ago, why would the sphere he was using end up like this so soon? Unless…
He lifts up the sphere this time, seeing the sun shining through the murky, yellow of the orb before he reaches into the small bag resting against the small of his back. He searches for the little pin he can transfer his magic energy into and when he finds it, he plucks it out and brings the orb back closer to him. He goes back to gnawing on his bottom lip as he watches the pin start to glow a soft, purple color before he looks to Jongin for help.
Although being older than him, Jongin has been with him since the younger was born, both coming from the Isle of Besaid and living in small yurts right next to each other in the mainland village. Baekhyun has always relied on Jongin’s surprising maturity and clear thinking despite his age and he doesn’t know where he’d be without him. Jongin gives him a small smile before reaching around his back, one hand gently holding his with the pin and the other holding onto the hand with the orb and slowly maneuvers him to help unlock whatever video is waiting inside the old sphere. They’re surprised to see a man screaming at them, voice loud and clear.
“Let me go! I need to see him! You have the wrong guy!”
The video is blurry but the man looks like Lu Han. It looks like him, but he almost sounds different. Baekhyun feels his heart stop beating when he sees the man scream some more before banging his fist on the bars keeping him in place. Even with the messed up image and odd sound of his voice, it makes Baekhyun want to run and find him, help him get out of whatever mess he’s managed to get himself into this time.
The video suddenly ends and arms wrap around him from behind, Baekhyun clutching on tightly to the objects in his hands and trying not to cry with Jongin keeping him safe.
“We’re going to find him,” Jongin murmurs into his hair despite both of them starting to sweat from how hot the cave is becoming as the day wears on, “I promise we’re going to find him.”
Another month passes by until they wrestle another sphere with a green glow out of another hunter group’s hands. It’s only the two of them now, but with Jongin’s physical strength and high endurance with Baekhyun’s high usage of magic and protective spells, they really only need the two of them to survive and get all the spheres they can collect.
This time, the sphere is useless, showing some old machina that’s not even in existence anymore except in museums and Baekhyun growls in annoyance before stuffing it in his bag and walking away to go to the next destination Chanyeol has told them from his place in the sky.
“I’m getting signature waves from a cave in the next island over, guys. Want me to land so you guys can come on board and we can get there quicker?”
Baekhyun huffs as he throws a hybrid wolf off of him before freezing him in ice and smashing his long daggers into the dreaded thing. He watches as a last whine escapes before the ice cracks and both it and the wolf dematerialize into glittering wisps of blue and purple smoke. He looks over his shoulder to see Jongin killing one wolf with a slash of his sword before rounding on the last one to slash at its neck. He can see blood running down his best friend’s back and he holds a hand out, a green glow instantly escaping his palm to attach itself onto the affected area and he hears a thankful grunt in response before he sets the other wolf in ice too.
More wisps of purple and blue smoke surround them and they take a breather, watching the colorful tendrils make their way for the heavens around them. For a brief minute, Baekhyun panics and thinks Lu Han’s made his way for the heavens too, but then he realizes that no. Lu Han isn’t stupid enough to die without giving him some sort of warning first.
“Are you guys okay down there? I’m landing a mile away from you guys. Go north.”
Jongin looks over to Baekhyun and there’s a silent question in his gaze. Baekhyun responds with a tired sigh before walking over to him to head north and get on to the next destination. It’s been a few months since that first sphere. It’s going to take a while to get there.
Baekhyun had been a summoner then, able to call upon mythical beings and beasts for help in dangerous situations, and he had been the most famous of all, being the son of a great summoner himself. He had a multitude of guardians when summoners usually only had one and, by chance, Lu Han had become one of them after showing up randomly to his home island in outdated clothes. Their party of six had become a party of seven, and Baekhyun had never regretted adding him at all.
He remembers nights when his life was on the line and Lu Han would be so out of time, bursting in at the wrong moments and saying things that made him sound like he was some sort of weird time traveler, coming from the past from when his homeland was probably a live, bustling city and not the ancient ruins they are now. He never questioned it but always accepted when Lu Han would sneak into his makeshift tent at nights when it was tough, always asking him if he was truly okay with everything happening around them.
Between nights of Baekhyun feigning strength and days of them joking around, they fell in love. They would always search for each other in their small group of seven and stay next to each other when times got tough and something else happened to threaten Baekhyun’s life other than the fact the end product of his summoner’s journey ended with him dead and the rest of world free from the large monster wreaking havoc all over.
And then one night, days right before the final battle to subdue the monster named Sin by the world’s religious groups, they made love. They snuck away from the camp and into the nearby city, looking for an inn to stay the night. A summoner isn’t supposed to have any romantic feelings of love, let alone have sexual relations with anybody for that matter, but the young innkeeper knew who he was and knew she had no right to stay in between them and their love knowing he only had a few days left to live. ‘Think of it as a forbidden romance,’ she had said as she gave them the key to a room, ‘Stay there for as long as you need.’
Baekhyun remembers Lu Han’s rough fingers tracing every part of him. He remembers the oil messily spilling everywhere making both of them laugh in embarrassment and he remembers Lu Han hiding his face in his neck when he started to shyly trace his entrance with a finger before pushing it in slowly. He remembers whimpering, almost wheezing, when Lu Han kept touching his sensitive neck and kissing him hoping to make him more comfortable.
He remembers crying, moaning Lu Han’s name in pleasure when they came undone together, bodies moving slowly to savor each moment between them.
Maybe that’s also why Lu Han was forced to disappear, body transient as he fell right through him trying to stop him from leaving. Because he sinned and did something no summoner had any right to do.
“Baekhyun?” Jongin quietly calls, causing the man to snap out of the daze he unknowingly put himself in fifteen minutes prior. He looks over to see Jongin giving him a soft smile, Kyungsoo sitting beside him manning the navigation panel while Chanyeol drives the large aircraft. Jongin still looks greasy and dirty from that last encounter they had with monsters. “Did you hear Chanyeol?”
“Huh?”
Chanyeol sighs loudly in exasperation, even though they all know he’s joking when he does it. “I said, Baek, there’s a signal coming from the Macalania area. Where do you want to go first? Kilika or Macalania?”
Baekhyun’s eyes widen at the name of the second place. In his one-year of sphere hunting, they had received no signals from where Lu Han was last seen, haven’t seen any traces from when the man jumped off the aircraft probably to return to his time. He looks to Jongin for advice, and the small smile on his face widens, even Kyungsoo is smiling over his shoulder at him.
“Baek?” Chanyeol asks again, looking over his shoulder, “Which one?”
A small smile cracks on Baekhyun’s face as he walks forward to put a hand on Chanyeol’s shoulder and look out the wide window. “Let’s find this idiot and go home already.”
“Baekhyun!” someone greets right when he steps off of the ship, Jongin in tow, and Baekhyun’s shocked surprised to see Jongdae standing there waving at them. Jongin is surprised too considering his mouth is open and he almost drops his small bag right next to them. “Hey, Jongin!”
“Jongdae?” Baekhyun questions hesitantly. He thought they dropped him off in the Thunder Plains where he was supposed to be fixing up the towers there after their initial journey together, after Jongdae was done being one of his official guardians. “What are you doing here?”
“I was fixing one of the towers in the plains,” Jongdae explains, gesturing for them to hurry up and follow after him, “I’ll hug you guys later. But while I was fixing one of the towers, I noticed something off with the one I was working on. It looked like something that belonged to him.”
“Yeah?” Jongin says as he loops an arm around Baekhyun to help him keep walking into the beautiful forest surrounding them. They’ve forgotten how gorgeous Macalania Woods has gotten.
“So, I went to check it out. I got shocked.”
“What?!” Baekhyun and Jongin exclaim at once, looking to him surprised only to see him waving them off. The Thunder Plains are famously dangerous.
“It’s been, like, the sixtieth time. I’m fine. Anyways,” Jongdae continues on, leading them between trees and up large branches to go to the graves of the woods, “I continued to search and found an orb that had some Lu Han look-a-like talking into it. The guy had broader shoulders and a more narrow face but when I visited the place it showed in the forest, I found something else.”
Baekhyun frowns at the story. That means the man in the first orb they found wasn’t Lu Han. “What did you find then?” he questions, knowing where they’re headed. “If you’re trying to tell me in some elaborate way that Lu Han is dead, I’m going to poison you so much you have no hope of recovering.”
“I’m pretty sure if we could still visit the dead and actually talk to them, Lao Gao would be scolding you right now.”
Baekhyun freezes in his steps, hearing a voice he’s almost forgotten, and he’s too scared to look around for the source of it. He feels Jongin’s arm tighten even more around him and he knows Jongin is cautious, scared too.
“Jongdae,” Jongin warns, not daring to turn around to check behind them.
In front of them, Jongdae is smiling, hands behind his back, as he continues talking. “At first, he didn’t know who he was. But being your awesome ex-guardian, I did everything in my power to help restore his memory.”
“I thought I was the awesome ex-guardian.”
“Nah,” Jongdae answers back with a wave of his hand, smiling to the person over their shoulders. “You’re, like, banging ex-guardian.”
There’s a laugh and Baekhyun is suddenly being ripped away from Jongin. Out of instinct, Jongin unsheathes his sword and Baekhyun has his hands against the person’s chest, ready to poison them at a moment’s notice, but then he looks up and the same crinkled eyes and bright smile are staring down at him and he suddenly can’t breathe.
“I’ve been waiting one month to see you, Byun Baekhyun.”
“Lu Han,” Baekhyun whispers, eyes wide and vision blurry from unshed tears. “It’s you?”
“Didn’t you call for me in your sleep?” Lu Han answers back with a cheeky smile, and it has both Jongin and Jongdae screaming and groaning from how cheesy that was. Jongin almost slices down the branch they’re standing on.
Baekhyun chokes on a laugh as he lets the tears fall, arms reaching out to loop around Lu Han’s shoulders and finally kiss the man he’s been missing for years now. Now, they can finally go home.
