Very well written!
I experienced the same thing when I first saw my father after hearing he had Parkinson's.
They wintered in Florida and it had been four months since I'd seen him. I lived about three hours from my family.
My siblings were all gathered at his home and I was arriving for the first time.
Shortly after I arrived and we all greeted, etc and were chatting to get caught up and I saw him shaking and having trouble talking ... I grabbed my purse and went outside as I started to cry and didn't want he and mum to see me falling apart.
My car was parked around the corner, out of view of their house. I got in the car and was crying and started the car thinking I would 'go away' ...
Well I sat there a while and didn't leave, but I did cry. When I settled down I went back in and apologized... saying 'I had forgotten something in the car.
Fear can make one do strange things!
