Congrats on making it two Regionals. Did "letter U" get the music yet? I'm curious to know what pieces "letter U" are performing. Good luck with your other festivals and I hope you feel better for school twomorrow. Don't want two miss two manny classes :-)
:P im sry i get lazy when it comes to typing.. especially longer journal entries like the one above.. but anyways, for regionals we're doing American Salute by Morton Gould, Les Preludes Symphonische Dichtung Nr. 3 by Franz Liszt, Prayer 1943 by William Schuman, and Mysterious Mountain by Alan Hovhaness.. the only problem w/ this music for me is that there arent many percussion parts @ all :/.. but o well i actulaly havent heard any of the pieces so hopefully they're pretty good..
Ooh how fun. I have two recordings of American Salute.. one Orchestral, the other for wind band. The Liszt should be good. The others I don't know much about. I'm not really big into 20th century music.
Did I know you played percussion? For some reason I thought you played trumpet or tuba... or something brass/wind. Anyway, a sure way to be in ANY piece is to be a tympanist. The tympani is the core of the orchestra from Mozart into the romantic era, when auxillary percussion was beginning to be used much more.
Well, I play piano, tuba, and percussion. Festival wise, last year i went 2 district, regional & state orcestra on percussion, district & regional band on tuba, n district & regional chorus on piano.. so yeah the three of those are my main instruments. Although tuba's just something that they needed me to play and i figured, why not? I like the other two much better.
I would have to agree, this was the best festival I've had so far. And you forgot one thing, the second day of practice, Timmy hit the gong during The Inferno and the rope that was holding it broke. Oh Timmy. I can't wait till regionals.
oh haha yeah.. that was great as well... yeah.. the only thing is the folder doesnt look quite as good.. percussion wise.. but they have actually audition excerpts in it.. the only thing is i wonder if they're actually going to use them this year or just do what they did last year @ regionals n not even touch them...
