Woah wait a minute... how are you doing the Beethoven piano concerto in chamber orchestra? Its written for a full orchestra of about 60 including full winds and brass (Which is small by today's standards, but not a chamber size).

I would suggest picking up the recordings by Fleischer with Szell and the Cleveland Symphony to listen to.

also, one difference between the bach and the beethoven. The Beethoven piano concerto was written to feature the piano as the solo instrument.

In Baroque music, the harpsichord was part of the continuo. In other words, its not the feature, but rather an underlying part that sets up the harmonics. It may help you to learn the Bach if you do a harmonic analysis of the whole score and you can get an idea of where the chords are moving. You may make more sense of your part that way.

yeah.. well we do have winds n brass as well.. just not 60 of them.. but yeah I actulaly was able to download the bach and i could hear what you meant about the harpsicord, see when we played it in chamber (we've only done it now twice) but over half the people weren't there so there were actually a lot of spots not being covered so it seemed even more like a solo piece to me.. but yeah thanx for the suggestions.. i havent gotten to play it much at all yet, but I do think agree that once i get an idea of what the piece is about and where its headed it should really help.. and also some if it is fairly repetitive.. not note wise, but idea-wise... but yeah once i listened to it i got even more excited about it.. especially theres one part where the whole orchestra stops n its just harpsicord for about 60 some measures that whole "solo" is really neat.. ive never been much of a classical person but the more im experiencing it the more im liking it
