It is becoming apparent that, despite an amazingly strong initial resistance, the Ukrainians are now in the process of being comprehensively crushed by the weight of the Russian artillery. The news blurbs we're fed by the MSM remind me of the Old Testament, where the Israelites are victorious in battle after battle, and then suddenly we find that

When Mariupol surrendered they called it an "end of combat operations".

Something that was pointed out to me, which I missed, is that if you watch the videos of the Azov guys coming out to surrender, they're bringing *all* of their shit with them - mattresses, bedding, extra clothes, even a guy with a humongous plastic carboy of breakfast cereal. It looks very much as though they were expecting to be immediately released. Not sure what to make of that.

He wants, as far as I can tell, the territories that belong to Russia - those that are ethnically Russian, and Russian speaking. Significantly, the people in those territories seem to want the same thing.
