Having borne witness to the Rock Machine that is Pearl Jam for the first time last night, I can only sit here and wonder: why did I not do this sooner? Is this what I've been missing out on for the last 10 years? What was I thinking? Mike McCready, bleached blonde and shirtless, chopping with his Flying V like some emocore kiddie who thinks " ( Read more... )

Why Yes... anonymous June 6 2003, 17:17:24 UTC
You've been missing a lot(by not going to their shows)....the first time i heard them live they played oceans and release(vitalogy tour)and if my memory also serves me correctly they played garden of stone...no code actually had some great fucking songs on it..but i think because it was so different from the previous three albums the band released that people just said..ok this sucks..and in reality it was amazing...and some would argue that the music got weaker with each album..but after seeing those songs played live..well ...they just arent...so what if its not the mosh music of the first three albums...just because a song is loud and hard doesnt mean its good ( ... )

Yeah that was one of the things that struck me, how GOOD the newer songs sounded live; I was totally unfamiliar with maybe half the songs since Vitalogy, but I never found myself bored or uninterested. They fit right in with the older work, moderated it a little, but it made for a great set.

I would have LOVED Yellow Ledbetter, but that's about the only song they didn't play that I would have really loved to hear (ok, Black too, and State of Love and Trust, but hell they played both my favorite covers so I'm not complaining).

I totally didn't hear that guy at all, but you know me, typically oblivious. I was pretty much transfixed on the stage anyways. The dumb girl, however, was hard to miss.

I agree about the Casbah...in general I haven't been keeping up on what shows are coming, mostly cuz I hate the Scene as a venue and Casbah shows go SOOOOOOOO late on weeknights (I think I'm turning into an old man!). But definitely, we will get there soon :)

Indeed your reviews are quite well done. Gives the reader the sense that you were very attentive and tuned in to everything, in that way that makes you feel like the reader can visualize the show...

Too bad you can't write a lick, when it comes to non-music issues, but hey, you live in SD for god's sake. There's got to be something out there that will fit that description of what you're looking for.

What makes you think I can't write a lick otherwise? Or are you just being an ass again?

I spose I dont know...just doesn't seem that hard news writing would be your forte...originality and spontaneity are the things that I notice in your reviews, things that aren't quite as useful in hard journalism

wait...what's all this talk of licking...suddenly this live journal response has gotten very interesting..and while maybe, as some have stated, you couldnt be a news journalist..im seeing a future career as a harlequin romance novelist for you...
