stay.
pg. jungmin/gyuri.
he makes her feel safe.
a/n lol this is apparently how I cope with this mess. It's rushed as hell, so...sobs I'm sorry in advance if it sucks. .___.
it's gyuri who calls jungmin at two in the morning, voice shaky and soft and unsure and just so different from what he's used to hearing. he doesn't bother to ask what's wrong, he knows, and he figures he should let her talk, let her say whatever she wants to, even if she’ll regret it later.
"o-oppa?" the clock reads seven minutes after two when her talking-crying finally dies down.
"hm?" he stares at the ceiling of his bedroom, trying to keep his eyes open.
there was a small pause. “does it hurt?”
he blinks once. twice. “does what hurt?” he murmurs.
“doing it without them. being alone.” she whispers. “i-i can’t...imagine doing anything without the girls, i just...can’t...”
“it’ll be okay, stop worrying.” he replies.
“b-but i had no idea at all, am i really that terrible of a leader to have not been notified-”
“gyuri.” jungmin sighs and sits up. he reaches to the side and turns on a lamp, rubbing at his eyes. “where’s the girl who has too much pride to be uncertain of herself?” he questions. “they love you, they won’t leave.” he tries to reassure her.
“you don’t know that.” gyuri’s voice cracks and jungmin subconsciously clenches his fist.
he exhales quietly, glancing at the clock. “where are you now?” he has a feeling, but asks anyway.
she snorts on the other line and a laugh escapes. “where else do i go when i’m depressed?” she questions quietly.
“give me fifteen minutes.” he replies, getting out of his bed.
“oppa, you don’t have to-”
“fifteen minutes, gyuri.” he interrupts.
he hears the smile in her voice as she whispers an “okay” and he hears the dial-tone a few seconds later. he can't help but think that she's the only one he'd do things like this for and he's pretty sure he knows why.
-
“how many of those have you had?” are the first words he speaks to gyuri fifteen minutes later, sliding into the chair across from the dark-haired woman.
gyuri looks up from the half-empty glass of beer infront of her with a surprised look on her face. “this is my second.” she says with an offended tone. “if you’re going to lecture me, oppa, you really shouldn’t have come.” she sighs.
“i’m not.” he receives a raised eyebrow. “you called me at two in the morning, crying, gyuri. i’m not going to lecture you.” he frowns.
she takes a sip of her drink then licks her lips. “it just...we'd all talked about it, but i never thought..." her voice falters as her eyes lower to the table.
the leader almost jumps out of her skin when a warm hand lands on hers. "you're not alone, you know."
she laughs. well...maybe that wasn't the reaction he was pulling for, but she was smiling, nonetheless. "you're so cheesy." she points out.
he grins. "all part of the charm." he replies, giving her hand a light squeeze.
her face flushes. "whatever." she says under her breath.
"wanna take a walk?" he asks out of the blue, figuring it'd be good for her to get some fresh air, at least.
she raises an eyebrow. "at two in the morning." she pauses, then a "sure" falls from her lips a few seconds later.
he stands up and extends his hand. "come on, goddess."
her face reddens again but she takes the hand, standing up and grabbing her purse.
"why are you always so nice to me?" she wonders as they walk out of the building into the cold, winter night. "i mean...i get it, we're from the same company, but unlike the others...you go out of your way to help me." her voice softens. "n-not that i'm not thankful, i am." she rushes to assure. "it's just...weird."
jungmin laughs. "we're more alike than you think, gyuri. i think that's what attracts me to you." he muses.
she stares at the ground to hide her ridiculously warm face away from his view.
"and i also think you do live up to your nickname, but...that's another story." he dismisses and gyuri suddenly notices they're still holding hands. rather, his hand is still grasping hers tightly.
she wants to say something but her mouth isn't willing to cooperate (for the first time in her life, she's sure) so she just tries to ignore the sudden feeling in her chest.
"you never answered my question." she speaks when she finally gets over this idiotic schoolgirl feeling and the damn butterflies.
he raised an eyebrow. "what question?"
"if it hurt being without them, doing it alone." she murmurs, biting her lower lip. "i don't know what's going to happen and i'm scared and it was all...so sudden and i don't know what to do, i'm the leader and i can't believe i never saw this-" her rambling was halted as a pair of lips landed on hers.
her eyes flutter shut and she knows she should push him away, slap him or tell him everything that's wrong about this, but she can't. she likes it too much.
he breaks apart slowly with a grin. "you were saying?"
all she can do is slap him on the arm, blushing and crossing her arms over her chest. "you're stupid." she hisses.
he chuckles but doesn't say anything.
her eyes glance down to their linked hands and she wonders if he notices, she wonders why she likes this. the feeling of his hand in hers, his presence beside her, why he makes her feel so...so safe.
she almost jumps as she feels her cell phone buzz in her jacket pocket and she's afraid to look at it. before she had called jungmin, it had been ringing constantly and it had taken her quite a lot to not just scream and throw it at the wall and block the outside world.
"aren't you gonna answer that?" he raises an eyebrow.
gyuri sighs quietly and pulls her phone out, staring at the flashing screen. jiyoung.
she can't.
she swallows and puts the device back into her pocket.
"ignoring it isn't going to do anything, gyuri." jungmin says quietly.
"i-i'm not ignoring." she whispers, although they both know it's a lie.
he snorts. "then why didn't you answer it?"
"because, i..." her voice trails and she shakes her head. "it doesn't matter."
jungmin frowns and stops in his tracks. "you're crying." he murmurs, his thumb brushing away the tears that were silently rolling down her cheeks.
she manages a choked laugh (when did she start crying? why the hell is she crying now?) and she knows she's just so close to breaking down when her phone starts vibrating for a second time.
she's not aware she had fallen to her knees on the sidewalk until a pair of arms wrap around her and that's when she loses it. she buries her face into jungmin's chest and cries.
"hey." a hand gently tilts her chin up and jungmin wipes away her tears again. "it'll all be okay. trust me." he smiles.
she can't help it. she leans forward and she can blame it on a million things, but...she likes this. she likes being with him.
"i'm the stupid one?" he laughs as they break apart.
all she can do is narrow her eyes at him, which only causes him to laugh harder.
"you're so infuriating." she snaps and stands up, dusting off her jeans.
he grins and follows suit. his hand finds hers again but this time, he slips his fingers between hers.
"what are you doing?" she asks quietly and she knows her face is burning up, even in this cold weather.
jungmin shrugs. "i think it's pretty obvious we like each other. you're not getting rid of me that easily."
she can't help the loud laugh she lets out. "i've never been able to get rid of you in the first place." she thinks she doesn't want to, to be honest.
"good." he smiles again. "you're....the yin to my yang, the uh...goddess to my god, the-"
"you are really stupid." she interrupts with a grimace. "just shut up and kiss me." she sighs.
he smiles. "gladly." he squeezes her hand and does exactly that.
gyuri has a hope in her heart that maybe...just maybe it will all be okay.
